NEW ADMINISTRATION.
APRIL 8th, 1929.
The certificate of the Board'of Election Commissioners of Washington County,Arkansa;
being in the hands of the City Clerk, in accordance therewith, the said City C1erk,J.C.Massj
administered the odth of office to T.S. Tribble, as Mayor of the City of Fsyetteville,Ark
ansas;
whereupon Mayor T.S. Tribble administed the oath of office to F.F. Stanford, Don C.
Fuller, Clem Pearson and S.S.Stepheris as .Aldrmen for their respective wards, and called
the Council to order.
The roll=call'showed the following Aldermen present;

The following petition was presented and read by the Clerk; -
TO THE HON, MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
of the City of Fayetteville,Arkansas;
We,the undersigned volunteer members of the Fayette-
ville Fire Department,who receive no pay whatsoever for our services,believing that adequAte
fore protection depends largely upon a trained and experienced corps of fire fighters,
ask that a member of the Fire Department who is familiar with the working and proper
functioning of the present department be -appointed chief by the Mayor,and his appointment
confirmed by the City Council,and with full authority for administering the affairs of the
department.

The Mayor announced that the matter of the said petition would receive attention
A bill .for the expenses of the General�Election held on April 2, 1929,in the sum
*of $153.25,being presented, Alderman Harding moved that said bill be allowed and the Clerk
(directed to issue a warrant to Bert Watson, Secretary; for said sum. Alderman Scott
seconded the motion which received the following vote ayes Ald rmen Bynum, Drake, Fuller,
Harding, Pearson, Scott, Stanford, Stephens; nays none, and was declared passed by the
I Mayor.
APPOINT- The Mayor announced the appointment of Sam Guinn to be Chief of Police.
MENTS: On motion duly passed the appo intment was confirmed.
The Mayor then administered the oath of office to Sam Guinn, and to M.E. Hand as

D oHathcock was then appointed City Health Officer, This appointment was duly con-
firmed on motion by Alderman Stanford, seconded by Alderman Harding, and passed by the unan-
imous vote of the Council, I
The present Board of Health, namely, Dr. E.F. Ellis, Dr. F.R. Morrow, Fred Raedels,
iNorman McCartney and Morgan McMichaels was repointed and on motion duly confirmed.
Art Lewis was appointed by the Mayor to be a member of the Board of Public Affairs.
;This appointment was duly confirmed by the Council.
The Standing Committees of the City Council were appointed as follows; -

The Matter of codifying the City Ordinances coming up, Alderman Bynum moved that said matter)
'be referred to the Ordinance Committee for investigation and report.. This Motion was duly
seconded by Alderman Harding and passed by the unanimous vote of the Council.
Fire Chief; Clyde Walters was appl6nted to be Chief of the Fayetteville Fire Department,where-
upon Alderman Bynum moved the appointment be confirmed. This motion was seconded by Alder-
man Stanford and received the following vote; ayes Aldermen Bynum, Fuller, Stanford, Stephens
' I Nays Aldermen Drake and Scott; Presnet and not voting Aldermen Harding and Pearson, The Mayor
decjared the motion passed.
Alley in The question of vacating a certain alley in Block 31 coming up for discussion, Alder -
Block 31 man Fuller moved said matter be referred to the Street Committee for report, This motion was
duly passed ,
IARK. AVE. A,representative from the City Beautiful Organization requested permission to undertak
IESPLANADF,: the improvement of the appearance of the esplanade on Arkansas Avenue, which was granted.
Axon; R.E. Axon was sworn in as a member of the City police Force.
