In M44,"•' Alderman presented a proposition looking to the purchase by the City of 78 acres of land being the old golf course, for an Airport,by the terms of which the City will be able to , secure said land for the sum of $5,000.00. After thorough discussion by members of the Council and the Mayor, Alderman Scott moved that the proposition as stated by Alderman Drake be accepted. Alderman Pearson seconded the motion which received the following vote; ayes (Aldermen Bynum, Drake, Harding, Pearson, Scott, Stanford; nays none; absent and not voting �( ldermnn Fuller and Jones. The Mayor declared the motion passed. J 4,567.07 At the request of the Commissioners of Improvement Districts Number 38 and 39 for an for Districts appropriation for the purpose of paying for the paving of the intersections in said Districts 38 & 39; Alderman Pearson moved that aipitum that a net appropriation of $4,567.07 be made -for said I � purpose,and that Attorney Atkinson, the attorney for the Districts be requested to prepare I the necessary contract for submission to the Council. Lderman Harding then moved that the Rules be suspended and the ordinance placed on its second reading. I"IHER7AS, Curb and Gutter District Number 38 of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, has been legally organized for the purpose of grading,rolling and the construction of curb and gutter, ;in certain streets,and Paving District Number 39 of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas has ben been legally organized for the purpose of grading,rmlling and paving certain streets in the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and ryvnereas It is the policy of the City of Fayetteville, in such cases to construct the improve ments in the street and alley intersections �n„s��@:aRmp3±csvezltestt�;;3�gtngCCge;,; and to pay the i lost thereof,and 385 ---._ WHEREAS, The City Engineer has computed the cost of constructing the improvements to be made in the street and alley intersections in said improvement districts and has reported the same to the city council,and WHEREAS, C.E. Pierce of Fayetteville, Arkansas,has proposed to enter into a contract with t City of Fayetteville for the amking of such improvements for the amount reported by the Ci Engineer, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYrETEVILLE,ARKANSAS: SECTION ONE: That the City of Fayetteville,Arkansas enter into a contract as hereinafter set' forth with C.E. Pierce of Fayetteville, Arkansas, for the making of such street improvements! as are to be made in the street and alley intersections in Curb and Gutter District No.38 and Paving District No. 39 according to the plans,specifications and drawings of the engineer and that such contract be executed by the Mayor of the City and attested by the City Clerk with the seal of said City affixed. SECTION TWO: r.nWTRer-m (This agreement made this 25th day of March, 1929 by and between the City of Fayetteville in Washington County, Arkansas, hereinafter called the City and C.E. Pievee of Fayetteville, Arkansas, hereinafter called the Contractor, of Witnesseth; The Contractor agrees to provide all/the material and to perform all of the work for the construction of the street improvements in all street and alley intersections in Curb and Gutter District No 38 and Paving District No. 39 in the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, organized for'the purpose of grading,rolling and constructing curb and gutter and paving in the following named streets or parts of streets in the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas,to-wit; North Walnut Avenue from the North line of East Maple Street to the North line of Johnson Street;North Olive Avenue from the North line of Gunter Street to the South line of Johnson Street;Johnson Street from the East line of North Walnut Avenueib to the blest line of North Mission freot Avenue; and Gunter Street foom the East line of 'North Walnut Avenue to the West line of North Mission Avenue all of which improvements are Ito be made as provided and set forth in the plans,specifications and drawings prepared by E.M. Ratliff Company,Engineer, which are made a part of this contract as fully as if set forth at length herein. The Contractor agrees to begin work under this contract within five days after notice from the City and to complete said job within four calendar months there_, after. Pierce or any other person firm or corporation designated by him. said warrants to be approved by the Mayor and to be in the amounts and payable at -the times hereinafter set forth,to-wit; One for Al 174 02, payable one ,year after date; One for 1,120.02, -payable two years after date; One for 1,066.02,payable three ,years after <ate; One for 1,012.02, 11,025.09, payable four years after date; One for payable fiveyears'after date. GRADING I Alderman Jones moved that an amount not to exceed $375.00 be appropriated for the purpo MAPLE STR.of grading Maple Street from Mock Avenue to Vandementer Avenue,and that the Street Committ be directed to take the neces^ary steps to secure bids for the work. READING OF THE MINUTE'S of the meeting of March 25th,.1929 was deferred to the next regular mee PURPOSE:1 The Mayor stated the purpose of the meeting was to provide for the consummation of the purchase of the old golf course for an aviation field. After a thoaough discussion of the matter, and agreement as to the requirements to be made pertaining to the nature of the conveyance,reservation of gas and oil rights; and it being understood that the conveyance should be unqualified and in feesimple, Alderman Drake introduced. an ordinance providing PURCHASElfor the acceptance of the deed and for the payment of the purchase price,which was read OF Ithe first time. Alderman Harding moved that the'Rules be suspended and the ordinance be AIR- placed,on its second reading.
