RDJOURNED MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
HELD APRIL 8th, 1927.
PRESENT, The Mayor, Clerk; Aldermen Phillips, Price, Harding, Drake, Jones, Scott, Watson;
' absent Alderman Bynum.
The reading of the minutes of the meeting of April 4th, 1927 was deferred to the next regu-
meeting.
Phillips introduced an ordinance providing for the submission to the vote of the
od Fayetteville, Arkansas of a proposition to issue $75,000.00 bonds of the City
for the purpose of purchasing or building a City Hall and other purposes whihh was redd the
first time. Alderman Harding moved that the Rules be suspended and the ordinance placed on
its second reading. This motion was seconded by Alderman Watson and received the following
ayes Aldrmen Phillips, Price, Harding, Drake, Jones, Scott, Watson; bays none; absent
not voting Alderman Bynum. The mayor declared the motion passed. The Ordinnece was read
the second time. After some discussion the ordinance was left on its second reading.
motion by Aldrerman Watson, seconded by Alderman Scott and passed by the unanimous vote
the members present, Oho a new Standing Committee was created, to be known as the Steart
' Cleaning Committee, and the mayor was authorized to appoint such committee.
No further business appearing the Council adjourned.

REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL HELD
APRIL 18th, 1927.
The Mayor, Clerk; Aldermen Phillips, Price, Harding, Drake, Bynum, Scott; Watson;
bsent Alderman Jones.
The Minutes of the meetings of April 4th, and April 8th, 1927, wereread and approved.
BILLS: The following bills against the City, bearing the proper vouchers, and the approval of the
Auditing Committee, were allowed and ordered paid and the Clerk was directed to issue war-
rants for the same on motion by Alderman Price, seconded by Alderman Phillips, passed by the
unanimous vote of the Cpuncil and so declared by the Mayor; -Dave Condra $36.00; and $36.00;
' Tropical Paint & Oil Co. $26.56; Campbell -Bell D.G. Co. $1.14;Ellis Sutton, $17.50; John
Zillah $71.25;Fayetteville, Ma chine Shop $1.30; Ownbey Drug Co. $6.00; Fayetteville Printin
Co, $1.00, $2.00,and $5.00; Southwest Power Co. $391.25,o J.OV. Shelley 17.75; W.A. Gregg
$1.25; Goss -Rogers Co. $4.15;Bert Watson $145.75.
HEARING Alderman Harding moved that the hearing of appeals from the action of the Board of assess -

of the Council to be held on April 25th, 1927. Ald erman Drake seconded the motion which

REVISED The Clerk reported that the revised assessment list for North Leverett Street Improvement
ASSESSMENT
IN District was filed with him on the 16th of April, 1927; whereupon Alderman Harding moved tha

so filed by the Board of assessment of said District and that the same is now opem for
' inspection. Alderman Price seconded the motion which received the following vote; ayes

declared the motion passed and the resolttion adopted;,aeopy is as follows;-

RESOLUTION.;_;'.:
WHEREAS, a certain " CONTRACT FOR THE LEASE OF REAL ESTATE% made and entered into on the
3rd day of December, 1921, by and between the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, as party of
the first part, and A.M. Byrnes as party of the second part,.whereby the said party of the
second part did lease and let to the party of the 2&rst part certain real estate, situated
in the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, to -wit; -
"The entire West one-half of Bolck Twenty-siz (26) in the.original Town (now City ) of Fay-
etteville, Arkansas, together with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging, with the ex-
ception of two (2) brick business houses in the Southeast corner of said West half of block
Twenty-six (26), and fronting on Menttbai$teeet on the South and abutting on the alley on
the East, and the frame building in the Northwest corner of said East half of Block 26,
and fromting on Center Street on the North and abutting on Church Street on the West, for a
period of FIVE YEARS from and after April 1st, 1922."
WHEREAS SAid contract did expire on the 31st day of March, 1927;
WHEREAS, said contract provided among other things that "The party of the first part shall
have the option of extending this lease for an additional Five years from the expiration of
this lease at the same rental hereinafter provided, PRIVIDED that the party of thr first
part must exercise its option within sixty (60) days after the expiration of this lease;
otherwise said option to be void at the pleasure of the party of the second part"; and
WHEREAS, The best interests of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas demands that said lease
be so extended;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
SECTION ONE:
That said lease hereinbefore mentioned be, and the same is hereby, extended for
a period of Five (5) Years, beginning April lst, 1927 and ending on the 31st day of March,
1932.
SECTION TWO:
That the City Clerk of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas be, and he is hereby
directed to notify the said A.M. Byrnes of the extension of said lease for said period of
Five (5) Years by delivery to said A.M Byrnes of a certified copy of this resolution.
SECTION THREE:
That this resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its
passage and approval. and that all resolutions or parts thereof in conflict herewith be, eR
and the same are hereby repealed.

A communication from Tom tart, relative to drainage on East Street was presented to the

f Council, and referred to the City Engineer for report.
A communication from Mr. Walker of the Southwest Power Co. relative to the cutting of gotta

gutters and walks for the purpose of repairing Whiteway conduit was referred to the City
Engineer, the privilege to cut be granted, subject to the oversight of said Engineer.
CITY The Se retary of the Board of Election Commissioners for Washington County, presented its
ELECTION•
report of the City Election held in the City of Fayetteville, which report was ordered to
be spread of record. A copy is as follows; -

WE, the undersigned, duly appointed, qualified and acting Board
of Election commissioners in and .for Washington County, Arkansas, do hereby certify that at
the General Election held in the several wards of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, on
Tuesday, April 5th, 19279 the following persons were elected to the following offices,
to -wit; -
Allan M. Wilson, Mayor J.F. Stanford, Alderman First Ward
W.H. Rollins, Police Judge Don, Fuller, Alderman Second Ward
Marcus Hulse, City Treasurer Clem Pearson, Alderman Third Ward
V.L. Jones, Aldrman Fourth Ward.
