IBE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: SECTION ONHh That all buildings now or hereafter constrteted within the corporate limits of and the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas,two stories in height,-ep over two stories in height , J except residences not used and occupied as flats or apartment houses,or fraternity or 4)rority housesin which the upper floors are provided with only one stairway and are used for public assembly,offices or for other purposes which would endanger the lives of occupants in case of fireshall, and they are hereby required to have stairways in compliance with,and as described in sections 10,11 and 22 of Building Ordinance number 577, passed and approved ,Jbthe fifth day of October, 1925,or fire escapes at convenient and easily accessablepoints, ate or near the end or side opposite from the main stairway, on the outside oCsuch buildings,899 so as to afford easy modes of escape in case of fire, to the adjoining streets or alleys or to the roofs of adjoin�L4g bulidings or to a landing or stage not more than 15 feet above the ground, and such outside fire escapes must be constructed wholly of steel or iron with plat- forms at doors or windows, staiU and side handrails on the outside. Risers must not be more than 8.inches, steps not less than 9 inches. Platforms not less than 30 inches wide for the first Fifty persons to be accommodated, and twelve inches additional for each 50 paerson above that number. Straight perpendicular ladders will not meet the requirements. Provided, however, that build&ngs in which the upper floors are used only for storage or similar purposes, where human lives are not jeopordized,may be excluded from the-reuirements i of this ordinance. SECTION TSIO: The Fire Chief is hereby authorized and required to order the. construction of `such stairways or outside fire escapes as herein provided, and the construction and location n jjoE the same must be approved by the City building Inspector,who will, upon application to t himgiving a description of the proposed work,issue a permit as provided in the Building Code. 222 SECTION THREE: All owners, lessees, managers or other personshaving control or supervision of In�VI buildings which are required to have stairways.or.fire esaapes and r the provisions of this ordinanoeshall be and they are hereby required to make satisfactory arrangements for such construction within 30 days after notice so to do., said notice to be signed by the Chief , 11L RAILS of the Fire Department. SECTION FOUR: All owners, lessees, Managers or other persons having control or supervision of %ow builddngsrequired to have stairways or fire escapes under the provisions of this ordinance, 4 who shall fail to complyvai:th the provisions of -this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in any sum not exceeding Five Dollars ($5.00) for each day such disregard of said provisions of this ordinance shall continue. SECTION FIVE: This ordinance is not intended to revoke, annul or repeal any former Ordinances or parts thereof, but shall be deemed and treated as cumulative to all ordinances of this nature in force and effect.
