HomeMy WebLinkAbout1927-01-24 Minutes0 HEAR HELD JANUARY 19th, 1927. Present; Aldermen Phillips, Price, Harding, Drake, Bynum, Jones, Scott, Watson; and the Clerk; absent the Mayor. On motion duly put and passed Alderman Phillips was chosen as the President proftem for the meeting. The President pro tempore announced the purpose of the meeting to be the consideration of the application for a building permit by Mr Dye and the protest against the granting of the same. It was suggested that in as much as the Mayor was absent, and the applicant was not present to represent his side of the matter, that action be deferred to the next regu lar meeting,whereupon Alderman Harding moved that the hearing of the protests against the granting of the permit to mr Dye be continued to the next regular meeting. Alderman Bynum seconded the motion which received the following vote; ayes Aldermen Phillips, Price, Harding, Drake, Bynum, Jones, Scott, Watson; nays none and was declared passed by the President pro tempore. Present; the Mayor, Clerk; Aldermen,Price, Harding, Drake, Bynum, Jones, Scott, Watson, Phillips. The minutes of the meetings of January 17, and 19 were read and approved. The following bills agaihst the City were allowed and ordered paid on motion by Alderman Price, seconded by tlderman Phillips, passed by the unanimous vote of the Council and so Glared by the Mayor; Allan M. Wilson,(for laborers cleaning the debris of the storm from streets) $171.70, Dave Condra $36.00;John Zillah $70.00; Allan M. Wilson, $38.04; Patter Blair $0.60;A.M. Byrnes $96.00;American LaFrance Fire `ngine Co. $21.17. NG in the matter of a permit for business building in Block 32. The time for said hearing having arrived, the protestors being present in person and.by attorney, the hearing was. begun. The text of the protesting petition was read and Dr. C.B. Paddock and J.F. Moore were placed under oath as witnesses, and their testimony was given in open meeting of the Council. Also, the Text of a petition favoring the granting of the permit was read to the Council by the City Attorney. In as much as the petioner, Mr C.T. Dye was not present, in person nor by attorney, Alderman Price moved that the hearing be continued to January 31st 1927, and that Mr C.T. Dye be again notified of the time and place of said meeting. Alderma Phillips seconded the motion which received the following vote; ayes Aldermen Phillips, I Price, Harding, Bynum, Scott; nays Aldermen Drake, Jones Watson; absent and not voting none The mayor declared the motion passed, and the hearing so continued. HEARING of appeals in Improvement District Number 21; the time having arrited for said hearing, Alderman Jones moved that said hearing be continued to January, 1 1927. Alderman Price seconded the motion which received the folowing vote; ayes Aldermen Phillips, Price, Hard Drake, Bynum, Jones Scott, Watson; nays none; absent and not voting none. The Mayor dec the motion passed. LICENSE ON POLICE AUTO: Alderman Jones moved that the Clerk be authorized and directed to pay th State license on the Auto belonging to Patrolman Burson, and which is used by the Police Department. Alderman Drake seconded the motion which received the following vote; ayes R -_i 1 1 r 143 Aldermen Phillips, Price, Harding, Drake, Bynum, Jones, Scott, Watson; nays none, and was declared passed by the Mayor. Present, the Mayor, Clerk, Aldermen Phillips, Price, Harding, Drake, Bynum, Jones, Scott Watson.Absent, none. I ' I THE MINUTES of the meeting of January 24th, 1927 were read and approved. BILLS: The following bills against the City, bearing the proper vouchersand the approval of the Auditing Committee were allowed on motion by Alderman Price, seconded by th&derman Harding, passed by the unanimous vob of the Council and so declared by the Magor ;This motion also included the bill of the Magnolia Pebroleum Company for $13.18 for Kerosine bought during August 1926; John Zillah, $123.75;Hudson Hardware $10.00; Washington Transfer Co. 25@ and PP.* Dave condra $42.00;Phoenix Construction Co. $217.35; Albert Jones $4.50; Ed. Malone $12.50; The time for the hearing of the application of C.T. Dye for permit to erect two C.T.DYE business buildings in Block 32, on lots 5 and 6 having arrived, Mrs C.B. Paddock and C.T. HEARING: Dye were sworn as witnesses, and testified in the matter, before the Council. Both sides to the controversy having announced that they had nothing more to submit to the Council, I Alderman Harding moved that the Council go into executive session. Alderman Price seconded i the motion which was passed by the unanimous vote of the Council. After exhaustive discus- sion by the members of the Council, Alderman Watson --moved that the permit be granted to C.T. Dye for the construction of the buildings as applied for. Alderman Price seconded the motion which recdived the following vote; ayes Ald rmen Phillips, Price, Harding, Drake, Bynum, Jones, Scott, Watson;_nays none; absent and not voting none. The Mayor declared the motion passed. The parties interested in the matter were then notified by the Mayor of the result of the action of the Council DISTRMCT The time having arrived for the hearing of appeals in Improvement Dstrict Number Thirty- _ 31 One, Alderman Price moved that said hearing be continued to February, 7th, at 7330 P.M. HEARING: 'I Alderman Harding seconded the motion which received the following votes ayes Aldermen Phill lips, Price, Harding, Drake, Bynum, Jones, Scott, Watson; nays noes, absent and not voting none. The Mayor declared the motion passed. BAKERS A petition from the butchers and Bakers of the City asking the repeal of the ordinance & BUTCHERS under which they are compelled to pay a City license, boas presented, and on motion was PETITION ref@ered to the Finance Committee, for report.
