A petition praying for the formation of an Improvere nt District Cor the purpose of paving
certain Streets was presented to the Council, and the same having been read to the Council
Alderman Harding moved that the said petition be received, filed and spread of record.
Alderman Watson seconded the motion which received the following vote; Ayes Aldermen Phillips,

LAVING Alderman Harding moved that the Council go on record as agreeing to pay an amount not to
UNIV. exceed $700.00 toward the expense of paving the portion of University Street adjacent to
AVE. Evergreen Cemetery. Alderman Phillips seconded the motion which received the following vote
ayes; Aldermen Phillips, Price, Harding, Bynum Scott, Watson; nays None; absent and not
voting Aldermen Jones and Drake, and was declared passed by the Mayor,
Alderman Price moved that the Mayor be empowered and authorized to enter into a contract
for paving that portion of University Street adjacent to Evergreen Cometery,provided the
Southwest Power Company will join in the contract, and provided further that the amount to
be paid from the funds of the City of Fayetteville shall not exceed the sum of $700.00.
Alderman Watson seconded the motion which received the following vote; ayes Aldermen Phillip)
Price, Harding, Bynum, Scott, Watson, nays none; absent and not voting Aldermen Drake and
Jones, and was declared passed by the Mayor.
CASEY'S Inspector Dinwiddie reported the matter of the establishing a garage on East Street and
GARAGE requested the opinion of the Council as to the propriety of issuing a permit. The matter
of electric wiring was referred back to the inspector with instructions to follow the
law; the matter of the effect on insurance rates was referred to Alderman Watson for report.,

NEGRO Alderman Harding moved that an allowance of "30,00 be made to the Chief od Police to re-
?ATROLMAN munerate the Negro Policeman for services to date and that said Negro policeman be allowed

$5.00 per month beginning with September, 1926, Alderman Price seconded the motion which

received the following vote; ayes Aldermen Phillips, Price Harding, Bynum, Scott, Watson;
nays none; absent and not voting Alderman Drake and Jones, and was declared passed by the
Mayor.
Alderman Price introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption. Thie
motion was seconded by Alderman Watson and received the following vote; ayes Aldermen Phillir
Price, Harding, Bynum, Scott, PJatson; nays none; absent and not voting Aldermen Drake and Jor.

J/,) EREAS, the owners of real property abutting upon University Avenue are desirous of paving
that part of said Avenue lying between DicksohgStreet and Williams Street with a pavement }bi
which shall extend from the sidewalk now lying alon the East Side thereof to the property
line on the West side thereof,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVIELE, ARKANSAS:
SECTION ONE:
That in consideration of the premises above set forth, which are hereby declared
to be good, valuable and sufficient,it is hereby ordered that at no time during the existence
of said pavement in a servicable c6r ition shall any Order issue, or any Resolution be adopt=
edrequiring the construction of any sidewalk along the West side of said Avenue between
Dickson Street and Williams Street.
SECTION TWO:
That this resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after its passa6
and approval, and after the signing of a binding contract by the property owners, owming
real property abutting upon.said part of University Avenue for the construction of said

ADJOURNED MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL HELD AT 72*00 P,MT3 SEPTEMBER 8th, 1826.

The reading of the Minutes of the meeting of September 7th was deferred to the next regular
meeting.
The mayor stated that the object of the meeting was to hear and consider the proposition
of the Southwest Power Company for installing a new Street Lighting System in the City.
Mr. Walker, representing the Power Company presented the plan and a contract which he
had prepared for the consideration of the Council. Thereupon the Council went into Executiv
Session, during which the matter was thoroughly discussed.
On motion the Clerk was directed to write to a number of Citj:es comparable to Fayetteville
for information in regard to their street lighting experience.
Without arriving at a decission , the Council adjourned.

vote of the members prrsent, and was declared passed by the Mayor.
A communication from Mrs Sure as.to removal of Garbage was presented to the Council and
on motion was referred to the Board of health.
