Present and presiding the Mayor; the Clerk; Aldermen Phillips, Drake, Bynum,Jones and Scott; absent Aldermen Harding, Price and Watson. The minutes of.the meeting of April 19th, 1926.were read -and approved. The accounts of the Streets cleaners, Jim Mitchell, $18.00 and. -Andrew Munds $24.00, and the bills listed below, having been -approved by the Auditing Committee were allowed, and the Clerk was directed to issue warrants for the same, on.motion duly made, passed and so declared by the Mayor;- Don. Alderman Jones seconded the motion which received the follow- ing vote; ayse Aldermen Phillips, Drake, Jones, Bynum, Scott,; nays none; absent and not voting Aldermen Harding, Price -and Watson. The Mayor declared the motinn passed, and the hearing accordingly continued. The Mayor presented a detailed report of the work done on.the.dirt..streets of the City showing 81 blocks of streets graded and dragged_at-..a..total-.cost-.of. $214.15.0 Alderman Philli P moved that the report be received and-filed.._.This.motian..was duly seconded by Ald rman COMR.- Jones and passed by the unanimous vote of the.members present. South Street ORD. SALARY, STATION WEST STR. OIL TANKS VICKERS I' WALL PARK: A petition to.extend South Street Eastward to intersect -Huntsville Road was presented and on motion was referred to a committee.composed-..of_the--Chairman_.of.-.the Street Committee the City Attorney and City Engineer, An Ordinance to amend Section X of Ordinance No. 553 was'introduced by Alderman Jones, and read the first time. Alderman Drake -moved that the Rules be suspended and the Ordinance S placed on its seeond.reading. This Motion was seconded by Alderman Jones and received the i following vote; Ayes Aldermen Phillips, Drake, Jones, Bynum, Scott; nays none; absent and not voting Aldermen Harding, Price and Watson, and tas.declared.passed.by the Mayor. The Ordinance was read the second time. An application for permit to build.driveway into a Filling Station on the West side of North West Street near Lafayette was presented, by S.W.Davis, and on motion by Alderman Drab seconded by Alderman Jones and passed by .the unanimous vote of the members present was al- lowed, subject to the approval and supervision of the City Engineer. Mr. Vickers requested permission to.locate.two.-Fuel.Oil Tanks at the intersection of Spring and West Streets. This request was referred to the Chairman of the Fire Committee for report as to the matter of Fire Hazzard, Alderman Drake reported that arrangements could be -made with the First National Bank to handle the matter of paying the pledge to Wall Street Improvement District, whereby the City would surae about $600.00 interest, and the Mayor directed that th a City Attorney prepare the necessary ordinance for making the plan effective. The City Engineer made a report to the Council as to the comparative cost of the two possible approaches to City Park from the West, and on motion by Alderman Drake, seco•Inded by Alderman Phillips and passed by the unanimous vote of the members preseht,the mayor appointed the Chairman of the Street Committee and the City Engineer as a committee to secure bids for making the necessary cuts and fills to prepare said approach. 6 .C.Cruse A petition asking that A.C.Cruse be.retained on the Police Force was presented and read to the Council. On motion by Alderman Price, seconded by Alderman.Watson and passed by the unanimous vote of the members peesent, the matter was.referred to the Chairman of the F ce Committee, for report as to the effect of the additional expense on the budget. f The following...rasolution.was..introduced.by Alderman._Jones.who..moved_its adoption.
