HomeMy WebLinkAbout1925-01-15 Minutes989 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE, CITY COUNCIL HELD AT THE MAYOR'S OFFICE,2;00 P.M. JANUARY 15th, 1925. Present, the Mayor; Aldermen Drake, Jackson, Mintun Phillips, Price; absent Alderman Harding; Alderman Jackson was elected active Clerk. The Mayor stated the object of the meeting to be the consideration of bids for the sale to tfr City of a Fire truck. The first bid.opened was that of Obenchain Boyer Co., submitted by Ned Finney in the form of a telegram offering a 600 gallon combination at $9.000.00; to'a 750 gallon tripple combination at 10 pO9000000 ' The second bid was thtt,of XJJ/0yV/¢/.Wieman & Company; offer;- 500 hallon triple combinatio ML� at 7,879.00 Alderman Harding entered at this -time., The third bid was that of the Seagraves Company, which was $12,500.00 for a triple combination 750 ga%lon truck. ' The flurth bid was that of the American La France Co, which was $12,500.00 for a triple combi- nation; also 500 gallon and 600 gallon at lower prices. The fifth bid was th t of Aron- Fox Co, which was$13,900.00 for a triple combination, 750 gallon com ination. At this point the Council went into executive session to hear the arguments of the repre- sectatives of the various Companies who were present and desired to be heard. Each representative was given 30 minutes to state his case;after which the Council,in execu- tive session considered the claims and merits of the various machines . After due and careful consideration, Alderman Mintun moved that the Board of Public Affairs b� be instructed to contract with the American LaFrance Fire Engine Company for the purchase of one Triple combination 750 gallon motor driven Fire Truck for the sum of $12,500.00,delivered at Faye^ etteville, Arkansas, This motion was seconded by Alderman Phillips and received the folowing vote Ayes Aldermen Drake, Harding, Jackson, Mintun, Phillips and Price; nays none; absent and not voting,none and.was declared passed by the Mayor. Alderman Drake moved that theNBoard of Public Affairs be direct to purchase 1,000 feet of Paragon Brand Fire Hose from the Eureka Hose Company,at $X�/ $1, s per foot, including interest on the deferred payments from June ist,1925; the payments to be made in one and two years from said date. This motion was seconded by.Alderman Price and received the follow ing vote; aues Aldermen Drake, Harding, Jackson, I'ntun, Phillips, Price; nays none, absent and not voting none and was declared passed by the.Iiia ' The Council then.adjourned. n-,r.f Approved; � J� Mayor.. The minutes of.the previous meeting were read and approved. The report of the Street Commissioner was received and filed. Alderman Jackson moved that the payroll pf the street laborers be paid and the Clerk directed to issue warrants for the same. This moyion was seconded by Aldemman Phillips =end received the following vote; ayes Aldermen Drake, Harding,'Hackson, Miritun, Phillips, Price; nays none, absent and not voting none, and was declared passed by the Mayor. $5.00 PAYROLL. Ozark Filling Station $26.10; C.A.Moreno $110.75 Pierce Oil Corp. 08.00. E.K.Hooper $50.00 Dr. 7d.L. Bleeker $28.00. Alderman Phillips moved that the bills of W.A.Gregg for cash paid for Police service, $15.00 Geo. J. Kiayer & Co. for tags, $38.85; and 85% of the Pho enix Construction Co.'s bill -for paving on University Street, $948.12 be allowed and the Clerk directed t o issue warrants for the same. ' Alderman Jackson seconded this motion which received the following vote; ayes Aldermen Drake, Harding, Jackson, Mintun, Phillips, Price; nays none, absent <wnd not voting none and was declared passed by the Mayor. Alderman Harding moved that the following bills, which were returned by the Auditing Committe with approval;to-wit John Zillah $15.00; J.W.Shelley $10.25; Southwestern Bell Tel. Co. $10.50; and W.G.Barron Post Co. $25.50, be paid and the Clerk directed to issue Warrants fort the same. Alderman Drake seconded this motion which,received the following vote; ayes Aldermen Drake, Harding, Jackson, Mintun, Phillips, Price; nays none, absent and not voting none, and was declare passed by the Mayor. On motion by Alderman Jackson seconded by Alderman Price, the hearing of complaints on the Occupation Tax was set for Wednesday, January 28th, 1925. The,:r ignation of .F.Campbell.a a member of the following Boards, viz. Sewer Improvement District , Board of Assessment, also the Boards of As essment of North 011lege Avenue Improve- ment District; rust Center Street Improvement District; and Wall Street Improvement District was presented to the Council;. whereupon Alderman Harding moved that the resignation be accepted, and Mr. Campbell released from further service on said Boards.
