Present;- the Clerk, Aldermen Drake, XArding,Jackson, Iaiintun, Phillips Price. In the absence of the Mayor the Clerk called the Council to odder,and on motion by Alder man Price, Alderman Phillips was elected Chairman Pro tem. The minutes of the,previous meeting were read and approved. The report of the Street Comr. for the week ending June 28th was read and on motion was ordered filed. On motion by Alderman Harding, seconded by Alderman Mintun the payroll of the Street laborers was ordered paid and the Clerk was directed to issue warrants for the same as follows; -Charles V;ilcox; 018.00; Ed 1 -!alone, 018.00; For hauling grave1,013.20,paid to Frank Williams for disbursement;T.N.':ebster, 010.10 The following bills Uainst the City were approved and on motion b; Alderman Price,sec- onded by Alderman Harding and carried by the unanimous vote of the Council the Clerk was dir directed to is.:ue warrants for the same; - Fayetteville Printing Co. for transcript blanks, 015.00; Mrs Grace B. McIntosh, for express on tags, 07.35. At the request of Mr J.B.Clark for.sidewalk grade, the City Engineer was directed to make the grade as requested along the front of Lots6,7,8,9 in Block 9 Ferguson Addition. On motion duly pl.,t and carried a permit to drive an Auto way granted to IvUss bIary Franci Harding, subject to the approval of the Chief of Police. Alderman Harding introduced an Ordinance which was read the first time,whereupon Alderman Price moved that the Rules be suspended and the Ordinance placed on its second reading.Alder- an Mintun seconded the motion which received the folloeing vote; Ayes aldermen Drake, Hardin Jackson, Iiintun, Phillips Price;Nays none Absent and not voting None,and was declared passed by the Chairman Proptem. Alderman Price then moved that'the Rules be further suspended and the Ordimance placed on its third reading and final passage. This motion was seconded by Alde erman Idintun,and received the following vote; Ayes, Aldermen Drake, Harding, Jackson, Mlintun. Phillips and Price; Nays none; Absent and not voting, none; and declared passed by the Chair- man pro tem. The re juests of Iirs 1,Iarinoni and hirs [7ilkins for_permision to cut the pavement on Ida Avenue for the purpose of making sewer connections,was granted provided that the work be done under the supervision of the Uity Engineer. Permission was granted to Capt. HooperThe Guards to run the Search Light Truck over the paved Streets. On motion duly put and carried the Clerk was directed to notify the City Collector to accept one half the license fee,as specified in the list of license fees from merchandise brokers. ' ADJOURNED IElETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL JULY 2nd 1924. Pursuant to motion recorded at page 922,this :.Record,the Council met at the usual hour. The Blayor being absent, the Clerk called the Council to order,and on motion by Alderman harding,seconded by Alderman IiIintun and carried by the unanimous vote of the members present Alderman Phillips was chosen as Chairman pro tem. ' The roll call -showed ;present Aldermen Drake, Harding, Mintun and Phillips; absent Aldermen Jackson and Price. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. George A Hurst, Attorney for ',:est Meadow Street Improvement District Number Oise, and for South College Avenue Improvement District Number One was present and addressed the Council. :.lderman Harding moved that the hearing as to the appeals from hest Meadow Street Improvement District Number One be continued'to July 16th,at 7;30 p.m. thereof. This motion was seconded by A Alderman Drake, and received the following vote; Ayes Aldermen Drake, Harding, Mintun, Phillips; Nays, none; Absent and not voting, Aldermen Jackson and Price,and was declared passed by the Chairman pro tem. Alderman 'larding also moved that the hearing on the appeals from South College Avenue Improve`' ' ment District Number One be continued to July 23rd, 1924 at 7;30 p.m. thereof. This motion was seconded by Alderman Drake, and received the following vote; Ayes, Aldermen Drake, Harding,Idintun Phillips, Nays none; Absent and not voting, Aldermen Jackson and Price,and was declared passed by the Chairman pro tem. The appeal of I,Zrs II.M.Albright from the assessment in Hill Avenue Improvement District Number One ::.Ls read to the Council, whereupon,after discussion thereof and comparison of the assessment with the other assessments in the same District,in which discussion Isar. Ab. Stone as the repre- sentative of Idre Albright took part and agreed that the assessment seemed fair and equitable, ..lderman Harding moved that the appeal be denied and that the assessment stand -as made by the Board of Assessors fo the said Hill Avenue Improvement District Number One. This motion was seconded bZi Alderman Drake and received the following vote; Ayes t�ldermen Drake, Harding, Irlintun, Phillips; Nays, none; Absent and not,voting Aldermen Jackson and Price;and was declared ppssed by the Chairman prop tem. ' ^he appeal of the Catholic Sisters was then read to the Council,and careful comparrison was made with the other assessments within the same District,and after a full discussion in which the Catholic Sisters dere represented by ?:r. Jack Ucker, Alderman Drake moved that in as much as the assessment seemed fair and ecuitable,the appeal be denied and the assessment stand as made by the Board of assessment of the said Hill Avenue Improvement District'Number One. This motin :ias sec- onded by Alderman 1.Iintun and received the following vote; Ayes Aldermen Drake, Harding, I.iintun, adn Phillips; Nays none, Absent and not voting Alderman Jackson and Price; and was declared passe - by the Chairman pro tem. The bill of the Bear State Oil Co. for Oil supplied to the Sanitary Department was presented ' and on motion by Alderman Harding, seconded by Alderman Drake and carried by the unanimous vote ifff the members present was allowed and the Clerk -.as ordered to issue a warrant for the same in the sum of $16.90.
