Present, Mayor 'Wilson, Clerk, Aldermen Drake, Harding, Jackson, Mintun and Phillips; Absent Alderman Price. A number of Citizens being present, the Regular Order of Business was suspended,and the Council was addressed by Rev. 1I.L.Gillespie, Dr. Otey Miller, E.L.Nettleship and J.F.Moore in opposition of a reported project for the erection of a Lumber Yard on ':,est Dickson Street near the Central Presbyterian Church. Following a discussion of the matter,a motion was passed which in its amended form reads • as follows; -"That the matter be reffrred to the City Attorney for consideration of its legal features,and that he with the City Engineer be directed to prepare a zoning Ordinance,which shall provide among other things thvt certain industries shall be localized,and particularly that Churches, Schoolsand Hospitals as now located shall be protected by prohibiting the location of Lumber Yards, Poultry Houses, Garages Esc within a certain definite distance;and ±k_ that the City Clerk be directed to give public notice that such an Ordinance will be present- ed for the consideration of the Council. At this time the minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. 1 Bills against the City were presented as follows, and on motion were refered to the Audit- ing Committee;- Campbell- Bell D.G.Co. $3.00 Jess Walters x$'21.00. The weekly report of the Street Commissioner was read and rrdered filed. The pay -roll of the Street Laborers was ordered paid and the Clerk was directed to issue warrants for the same as follows; John Zillah, $25.00 Chas. 'Jilcox 18.00 Edgar Williams 8.75 Ed. Malone 16.50 T.N.'aebster 8925 alderman Harding moved that the Street Committee be authorized and directed to purchase a dump cart and a set of harness,and to employ a man with a horse to work in connection with the Street Cleaning force,and to see to the direction and supervision of his work. Alderman Mintun seconded this motion,which received the following vote;- Ayes Aldermen Drake, Harding, Jackson, I.Iintun, Phillips; Nays, none; Absent and not voting Alderman Price,an d declared passed by the Ma mayor. A number of appeals from the assessments in West Meadow Street Improvemment District Number One were presented and filed with the Clerk;which being read to the Council, Alderman Phillips moved that June 23rd,1924 be set as the date for a hearing on the same; and also on the appeals from the assessments in South College Avenue Improvement District. This motion was seconded b;; Alderman Mintun and received the following vote; Ayes Alderman Drake, Harding, Jackson, Iiintun, Phillips; Nays, none; Absent and not vojing Alderman Price,and declared passed by the Mayor Alderman Phillips moved that the Clerk be directed to notify the `,later Plant °uperintendent that the work of Paving School Avenue will be undertaken at an early date,and to request that he and the ';later Commissioners confer with the Commissioners of the District with ref nee to th placing of water mains and sewer lines.
