Alderman Harding introduced In Ordinance which was read the first time, whereupon Alderman
Jackson, seconded by Alderman I.Iintun,moved that the Rules be suspended and the Ordinance
placed on its second reading, which motion was carried by the following vote, Ayes Aldermen Edi
Harding, Jackson, Mintun, Price, Nays none, Absent and not voting Aldermen Drake, and Phillips
and so.declared by the Mayor.
Alderman Mintun then moved that the Rules befurther suspended and the Ordinance placed on its
third reading and final passage; this motion received the following vote, Ayes Aldermen Hardin g
' Jackson, Mintun, Price, Nays none; Absent and not voting Aldermen Drake and Phillips. The Mayor
declared the motion carried,and then called for the vote on the passage of the Ordinance, which

EERULAR 11EETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL,HEMAY 26th.1924.
Present; Thyor, Clerk, Aldermen Drake, Harding, Jackson, I.Iintun, Phillips and Price.
The Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
There being a number of visitors present, the regular order of buciness was suspended
' and the City Health Officer, Dr. A.S.Gregg,addressed the Council concerning the matter of
sanitation,calling special attention to the urgent necessity of securing a more distant and
suitable place for the disposal of the refuse of the City. It was pointed out that this would
entail additional expense to the Sanitary Policeman,and in order to meet the present and
urgent necessity for immediate relief,the Council was asked to make an appropriation to pay
this increased expense.
17hereupon Alderman Jackson seconded by Alderman Harding,moved that,the sum of $50.00
additional salary be paid to J.YI.Shelley, Sanitary Policeman,per month for the next succeed-
ing two manths,ot be continued indefinately,unless and.until other -arrangements were made.
This motion was carried by the following vote; Ayes Aldermen Drake, Harding, Jackson, Ylintun,
Phillips and Price.
FI.J.Reynolds then addressed the Council,calling attention to the excellent work done by
the City Health Officer,and requested the Council to increase the salary attached to the
position. Alderman Phillips, seconded by Alderman Harding moved that the salary of the City H
health Officer be increased to ,,0"75.00 per month,the increase to be effective from date.
This motion was carried by the following vote; Ayes Aldermen Drake, Harding, Jackson, Mintun, P
Phillips and Price.
A special Jommittee consisting of Alderman Mintun and Harding was appointed to act ftth the
City Attorney in preparing an Ordinance providing for an Occupation Tax to be presented to the
Council ay the earliest possible date.
In compliance with the invitation of the Council, the Commissioners of ::'est Lafayette
Improvement District met with the Council and discussed the ways and means of resurfacing
the Streets of that District.
On motion by Alderman Jackson seconded by Alderman Price, a Committee. was appointed to
confer with the Citizens living in the neighborhood of the rock quarry on North Willow Aven
nue and the Moreno-Burkham Construction Co.,with reference to the resumption of operations.
at the said quarry,and the committee was given power to cancel the order of the Council as
to blasting in said quarry if and when the parties abovm mentioned should arrive at a
satisfactory aggreement with reference to the same. The Mayor appointed Aldermen Price and
Jackson as the Committee,
The following bills against the City were presented and on motion duly put and carried,
were referred to the Auditing Committee;

The report of the Street Commissioner for the week ending May 24th,was read and orders
filed.
On motion by Alderman Harding,seconded by Alderipan Price the payroll of Street worke
ers was ordered paid and the Clerk directed to issue warrants for the same as follows;
T.N..:ebster X10.37; George Reed 20.00; Charlie Wilcox, 56? 16.50; Doc Taylor, X6.25;
Ed Malone, X18.00.
The City Collettor was instructed to purchase Auto Tax Tags for the ensuing half year,
it being the intention of the Council to change the date of paying said taxes to conform
to the State Collection.
Alderman Jackson moved that the City Clerk be directed to issue orders in conformity nal
with the Sjate law,for the construction of sidewalks on Leverett Street between Maple and
York Streets . This motion was seconded bynAlderman Drake and carried by the following vot
Ayes Aldermen Drake, Harding, Jacksom, Mintun, Phillips.Price.
In hesponse to a Petition signed by a number of citizens living on South Church Avenue
an on motion by Alderman Price,seconded by Alderman Mintunand carried by the unanimous vote
of the Council it was ordered that the City Clerk be directed to isbue orders for the con-
struction of sidewalks on the hest side of South Church Avenue between South Street and3rd
Street;and that the City Engineer establish the grade for the same.
On motion by Alderman Harding,seconded by Alderman Jackson and carried by the unani-
mous vote of the Councilit was ordered that the City Clerk be directed to issue orders for
the construction of sidewalks on the South side of Spring Street from Block to Church, and
on the East side of Church Street from Spring to Meadow .
The request of The Fulbright testate to cut the Pavement on North West Street for the
purpose of tapping the Water and Sewer Mains was granted,on motion duly put and carried,
the work to be done in conformity with the existing Ordinances,and under the supervision
of the City Engineer.
On motion by Alderman Phillips,secomded by Alderman Harding and carried by the unanimou
vote of the Council, the Mayor was authorized to purchase equipment for making and repairin
brooms for the Street Sweeper.
Alderman Price introduced an Ordinance which was read•the first time,whereupon Alderman
Price moved that the Rules be suspended and the Ordinance placed on its second reading. T'hi
motion was seconded by Alderman Harding and resulted in the following vote; Ayes Aldermen R
Drake, Harding, Jackson, Mintun, Phillips and Price Nays none; absent none; the Mayor deals
declared the motion carried,and the Ordinance was read the second time. Aldemman Price then

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Because of the large number of visitors present, the regular order was suspended In or-
der to hear from them. After a long and exhaustive discussion of the matter of the rock
quarry,during which two communications from interested parties ware read,the opposing pato
ties agreed to attempt to reach an aggreement privately, and departed
