HomeMy WebLinkAbout1924-02-25 Minutes876 `� - O WHEREAS, on said..4th day of february,I924,the time fixed in said notice for the hearing of said Petition,to determine whether those signing the same constituted a majority in value of.the owners of real property sought to be annexed,it was decided by the City Council of said City of Fayetteville to continue said hearing until February II.1924; WHEREAS, on said IIth day of February ,I924,it was decided by the City Council of said City of Fayetteville to further continue said hearing until February I8,I924,at 7:30 P.M.;and WHEREAS,on said I8th day off February,I924,the time so fixed by said City Council of said City of Fayetteville for the hearing of said Petition,to determine whether those signing.the same constituted a majority in value of the owners of real property sought to be annexed,after hearing all persons who desired to be heard,as to whether said Petition contained the signatures of such majority,the said City Council of said City of Fayetteville,Arkansas,did ascertain and X declare that said Petition did contain the signatures of a majority of the owners of real proper- ty'within said territory,according to the last preceeding assessment for State and County taxes ' in the said territory,and as shown by the records of deeds and by actual ownership; and that said Petition is in due form,and as required by law. NOW,TH✓REFORE,BE IT ORDAINED BY.THr CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTF;VILLE,ARKANSAS: SECTION ONE: That the hereinbefore described real property,West Maple Street from the East x line of Arkansas Avenue to the East line of Vandeventer Avenue,North West Avenue from the North line of West La Fayette Avenue to the South line of West Maple Street,be,and the same is hereby, annexed. to said 'Jest La Fayette Avenue Improvement District Number One of the City of Fayetteville, ' Arkansas. Absent Aldermen Price and Stephens. The minutes of the preceeding meeting were read and approved. The Report of the Street Commissioner for the week ending Feb. 23,I924 was submitted to the Council,and on motion made by Aldo Jackson,seconded by Aldo Phillips and.carried by the unan- imous vote of the Council,said Report was received and filed and the Clerk was directed to issue warrants to cover labor and materials,as shown by said Report as follows: Charlie Wilcox, I2.00; Ed. Wilcox, $ 2.50; Henry Barton ? II.25; Hooper, 2..00 The following Bills against the City were returned to the Council by the Auditing Committe with its approval} and on motion made -by Aldo Jackson,seconded by Aldo Phillips and carried by the.u- nanimoud vote of the Council,said bills were approved and the Clerk was.directed to issue warrants to cover same as follows: Grace Mc Intosh, 85.22; Fay. Print. Co. I5.50; A.D.Sandford, I.50; E.Z.Davied & Son, I3.95; Greer Abst.Co. I5.00; J.W.Shelly, 4.50 A communication from G.A. London in reference to installing firwhydrant at�c rn rto Spri�n�g and Willow Spring and also in regard to 'sewer connections on East Spring Streets On motion made by Aldo Phillips,seconded by Aldo Jackson and carried by the unanimous vote of the Council,the Mayor ' appointed the following Committee to investigate the matters referred to in Mr. London's communi- cation: Aldermen Jackson,Harding and Phillips. The following applications to errect buildings w re submitted to the Council,and on motion made by Aldo Harding,seconded by Aldo Mintun and carrieKby the unanimous vote -of the Council,these applications were approved,subject to the inspection and approval of the City Engineer: Litteral Canning Co.,Factory Building; Bryan -Tuck Motor Co.,Store Bld. On motion made by Aldo Harding,seconded by A1d.Mintun.and carried by the unanimous vote of -the Council,the City Engineer was instructed to establish the grade for a sidewalk to be constructed ' on the "South side of the Ozark Theater Bld. by h,Ir. J.NI.Williams. Mr. J.M.Williams and Mr.H.E.Cravens appeared:before the Council in reference to the payment by the City of a part of the cost of the intersection of East Center and College Avenue;and;on motion made by Aldo Mintun,seconded by Aldo Harding and carried b the unanimous vote'of the Co'uncil,and so declared by the Mayor,the City appropriated the sum of 299.25,said sum being one-half of the estimated cost of paving the intersection of College Avenue and East Center Street,to be paid the Commissioners of East Center Street Improvement'District Number One of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas upon the completion of said intersection;and the Clerk was instructed to issue a warrant drawn on the Street Fund of the City of Fayetteville for said sum of $299.25 to the order of said Commissioners upon the completion of the construction work of said intersection. On motion made by Aldo Harding,seconded by Aldo Mintun and carried by the unanimous vote of the Council,permission was granted the property owners on Fast Center Street to install eight "White Way"'Street lights on East Center Street and the City Council obligated the City to bear. the expense of lighting six of said lights -said lights to be of the same candle power as those now maintained by the City on Dickson Street. On motion made by A1d..Harding,seconded by Ald.Jackson,and carried by the unanimous vote of the Council,the Clerk was directed to issue warrant to J.'S.Bates for the sum of $ 234.38,same be- ing the second warrant of a series of two warrants to be issued to Mr.Bates as shown by these rec- S 77 ords on page 834,said series of warrants being issued for the purpose of aiding in the improve- ment of Garland Avenue. Mr Eoff appeared before the Council and asked.permission from the Council to errect an electric sign at the Ozark Filling Station on College Avenue. On motion made by Ald. Phillips,seconded by Ald. Mintun and carried by the unanimous"sote of the Council,permission was granted Mr.Eoff to errect said sign. The City Engineer submitted a verbal report in regard to the cost of construct- ing cement culverts on Walnut Street and on Rebecca Avenue;and on motion made by Ald. Harding,sec- onded by Ald.Phil'lips and carried by the unanimous vote of the Council,the City Council agreed to appropriate a sum bf money equal to the amount of money raised by property owners effected,to con- struct two culverts on Walnut Street. • On motion made by Ald. Phillips,seconded by Ald. Harding and carried by the u- nanimous vote -of the Council,the City Engineer was authorized to let contract for the construct- ion of a culvert on Rebecca Avenue air a cost not to exceed the sum of $ 50.00. 1 No further business appearing,the Council adjourned at 8:50 P. Phillips,seconded by Ald. Harding and carried by the unanimous vote of the Council,said Reports and bills listed below were referred to the Auditing Committee: Goss -Rogers Elec.Co., 3.25; Fay.Gas and Elec.Co., 358.80; •Lewis Bros.Co., I3.82; Goss -Rogers Elec.Co. 2.00; Greer Abst.Co.
