The minutes of the preceeding meeting were read and approved.
The Report of the Street Commissioner for the two weeks ending Jan„ 26,I924,was submitted
to the Council and on motion made by Ald.Phillips,seconded by A1d.Jackson,and carried by the u-
nanimous vote of the Council,the Report was received and filed and the Clerk directed to issue
' warrants to cover labor as shown by said Report as follows:

The following applications for permission to errect buildings were submitted to the Council
and on motion made by A1d.Harding,seconded by Ald. I.4intun,and carried by the unanimous vote of
the Council,said applications were granted subject to the approval and .inspection of the City
Engineer:

The following bills against the City were submitted to the Council,and on motion made by
A1d.Jackson,seconded by A1d.Phillips and carried by the unanimpus vote of the Council,said bills

WHEK AS,a petition claiming to represent a majority in value of the owners of real property
adjoining and on West Dickson Street from the East line of Duncan Avenue to the Bast line of Gar-
land Avenue was duly filed with the City Council on January I4,I924,asking that said property
be created into an Improvement District to be known as Annex Number One to University Improvement
District -Number One of the City of.Fayetteville,Arkansas;
NOW THERrFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF.THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE,ARKANSAS,
That the City Clerk of the City of Fayetteville,Arkansas,be and is hereby directed to give notice
by publication for two weeks in some newspaper issued and having a general circulation in the City
of I'ayetteville,Washington County,Arkansas;that such petition has been filed and that it will be
considered at a meetingof the City Council of said City of Fayetteville,Arkansas,which will be
held in the Mayor's Office on Monday February I8,I924,at 7:30 P.M.,and that all property owners
within said Improvement District may appear before said City Council on said Date and show for or

Section One. That the Board of Public Affairs of the City of Fayetteville,P_rkansas,be,and they
are hereby authorized dind directed.to advertise for bids and to award a contract for the pur-
chase of twelve(I2) water proof suits for the use of the Fire Department,at a cost not to.exceed
Two Hundred and Forty-five Dollars(245.00). '
Section Two. That this Ordinance be in force and effect from and after its passage;approval

A communication from Mr. Jas.Dinwiddie was read to the Council,and on motion made by Aldo*
Harding,seconded by Aldo Jackson and carried by the unanimous vote of the CouncilXthis communica
tion1with reference to installing a culvert on West Maple Street near the junction of Leverett)
was referred to the Commissioners of University Improvement District Number One of the City of
Fayetteville,Arkansas.
Mr..Leland Bryant appeared before the Council and tt;ade a statement in. ref-
erence to supplying the City with a street -sweeping machine.
The Mayor called the attention of the Council to a contract with the City made and
signed by J.N.Tillman,E.B.Harrison,B.H.Stone,and M.Baum.4 reference to side -walks in front of
T.C.Skagg's property on College Avenue. On motion made by Aldo Phillips,secondea by Aldo IcIintun
and carried by the unanimous vote of the Council,the Mayor was authorized and empowered to take
up the matter of this contract with the signers of said contract.(Copy of this contract is found
on page 239 of these Records).
The following Ordinance was introduced and read for the first time;on motion made by '
Aldo Harding,seconded by Aldo Phillips and carried by the following vote; Ayes,Aldermen Harding,
Jackson,Phillips,Mintun, ,Neyes; None,and so declared by the Mayor,the Rules were suspended and
