Son w5.50,. 625 I 626 `' The following report was handed in towit: Report of the.Committee on Walnut Street. I11r.Mayor and members of the City Council, Your Committee respectfully submits the follo;';ing report. Walnut Street, betwe n Spring and Center Streets will not in our judgement for many yearsattract en ugh traffic to justify the City in going to the expense of properly grading and preparing'it.for travel, A forty foot street at that place will be su£ficent for any traffic it will. ever probably have%,and this forty feet could just as well be central part as at one side,so far as the contour of the street.is concerned. In sanctioning the building of.the.forty foot street on the West side of the: sixty foot way,the City was actuated by the proposition of the property holders on the West side to build the street without expense to the City.,and by the further ' consideration, that the property on the Hest side was in no way injured, but rather was benifited.by having the street put into a usable condition. In view of the foregoing and of the fact that the property holders on the "jest side of.the Street have protested against the arrangement formally made with the City Council, your committee respectfully recomends that if all of the parties on the street will agree on a plan whereby.e. forty foot street, located in the central. part of the street, may be constructed in a reasonable time and under the supervision of the ilayor acting as Street Commissioner; their that ten feet be vatted on each side; of the street. ' Also that the holders of the abutting property be permitted to annex the same: to their respective holdings, with the understanding, always, that the City Council cannot give title and will not attempt to do so.
