HomeMy WebLinkAbout1921-01-16 Minutes618 CALLED FETING CITY COUNCIL HELD JANUARY 18th,1921. �Present llay,�lHarding ,Iassie Stephens Wages, Absent Clerk IAS, Ald Massie acted as Clerk, The Aayor stated that'this meeting was called for the purpose of sending a Petition - t o the Legislature to exempt the property owners of Fayetteville from taxation Nin Raod District Number 4 of Washington County. 'Whereupon Ald Harding introduced the following Resolution and moved its -adoption, towit:- RESOLUTIOIT. j /1 BE, IT RESOLVED BY THE CI'T'Y COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYLTTEVILLL,ARICARSAS: That the Representatives and State Senator from Washington County,"Arkansas, be, and they are hereby, respectfully urged and requested to pass a Bill at this Session of the Legislature exempting all of the property within the corporate•limits of the City of Fayetteville,Arkansas, from the operation of Act No. 529 of the Acts of the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas, passed and approved March 28,1919, said Act being known as an Act creating Road Improvement District No. 4 of Washington County,Arkansas. Be -it further resolved, that this request is made of our Representatives and State Senator, for the following reasons,to=wit:.11 - 2. It burdens property in the City of Fayetteville to such an extent as to make much needed local internal improvements almost impossible. 3. The assessement already placed upon the property in the City.of Fayetteville, together with those contemplated and within the act of formation !virtually amounts to confiscation of property. The tax payers of Fayetteville will be paying on Improvement Districts already formed and the contemplated internal improvements about 100` of the assessed value of their property. The Streets of the City o£ Fayetteville, are very much in need of being paved or permanently repaired, and if the tax payers are to pay all of the -proposed $m improvements taxes, it will practically prohibit for years to come, any internal improvements. 4. There should be some limit placed upon the power to levy taxes on property within cities, for improvement purposes. Passed and approved this 18th day of January,1921, Attest:- J.C.I.assie, . The Mayor declared the Resolution duly adopted. d, put in a bill for the sum of $260.00 for extra expenses lin getting up the various Improvement Districts of the City up todate, whereuponAld t'lages moved that the account be allowed and Clerk draw warrant for same, which was duly sec by Ald Ambrose, resulted in the following vote,Ayes Ald Ambrose , Ham ;Harding,i;assis.Stephens , Viages,Nayes none,Absent and not voting none, I:.Ta.yor declared the motion adopted.
