The _following report of the—City Health officer was _handed in and-read;,towit-:_ Septsember 21 st I9I7. T## Honorable mayor and City Council, N. - - - - - - - Gentlemen: I desire subkdt herewith a report of Health conditions in the C-ity of Fayetteville at -the present time. - -- - The health of this City is very good at this time,no contagious or infectious diseases . prevailing to any alarming extent* In the spring and early summer there#,were a few cases of measles in the city. There were two cases of scarlet fever found in quick town.. Both Foci were promptly quarantined- and. the-Aisease thereby- -stamped out.__ Four cases of Typhoid fever have been reported to this office durink the summer,I on East_&fayettev Avenue,.I on West Lafayettev#_Avenue, I on_Four_th Street and I in Rose Hill Addition. I venture the assertion that this is the smallest number of cases of this fever that has occured in the City in a great many years. The absenbe of this anual scourge is probably attributable to the Supt of the -Water Plant 'and my-own-to-have"a'small-amount of the hypochlorite of lime mixed in the water as it leaves the pant at the river. Ther have been two foci or nest of -small pox in the city this sum•nerone occur'ing in a- - young man in company B Barracks at the Girls Domitory and the, other outbreak in a family on Gregg Street, two doors n####;¢ -north -of the Light -Plant,. --In both cases -the disease came from -. - Winslow. The case occuring in the Baracks was promptly moved clear out of town together with his _--.- _.-- room mates-and-ri idl------- ---- --- g y-quart-inad, - ----•• - - --- ,-- - - - - - This case was handled entirly at the expense of the Army, not costing the City a cent. - - - The- -other -small --pox outbreak-occured-in a famiy -by--the-Nott..-•near the Light Plant -.-- A member og the family visited in Winslow long enough to be exposed, returned home and -.---in due_ time --developed _ the diseases It--has..-gone_through_the-family_of eight-.the._las.t-------- 3 cases just now being convalescent from the disease. It is the streak of godod fortune that the disease_ has not been pf6tty scattered as it was called chicken pox by the family and very few precautions taken to contro-1 it until it came under my oberservatin two weeks ago. Progress is being made by the contractors on the Cigys filteration plant — - -and--I-feel --sure-it--wi-ll-be-only-a-short-time-until-this-C-ity-willhav"e: an axe elent---------- Filteration system for the purification and clardfication of our public water supply. ---. --- . --It-.certainlyt-- is- -to-be-hoped--that-we-are -near ing-theeend-of--the-era--of --muddy City - - water. .
