HomeMy WebLinkAbout1982-01-04 MinutesMINUTES OF A BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT MEETING A meeting of the Board of Adjustment was held at 3:45 P.M., Monday, January 4, 1982 in the Directors Room, City Administration Building, Fayetteville, Arkansas. MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Chester House, Larry Thompkins, Dennis Becker, Don Mills, Robert Waldren, Dr. David Crittenden. Wayne Ball. Clark McClinton, Charles E. Watts, Cynthia Stewart, Bobbie Jones, others. MEMBERS ABSENT: OTHERS PRESENT: The minutes of the December 7, 1981 Board of Adjustment Meeting were approved as mailed. The next item of business was the Public Hearing on the Appeal No. 81-25, Wiggins Memorial United Methodist Church, 205 West Sixth Street, application to vary setbacks. Clark McClinton and Charles E. Watts were present to represent. The Chairman asked for comments in favor of the request. McClinton addressed the Board. He stated the original church structure was built in 1941, the building marked "sanctuary" was constructed in 1965. Both structures were in compliance with setback requirements when they were built. However, the designation of 6th Street has been changed and the setbacks increased. McClinton stated the Church is requesting the variance in order to construct a bell tower. The bell tower will not be constructed in front of either structure. In addition to the construction,of the bell tower, if.the variance is granted, the Church is also bricking up the base of the old building,..connecting the two existing structures and changing the entrance to the Church If this variance is granted, there will be nothing protruding in front of either of the existing buildings. Larry Thompkins asked what the designation for 6th Street is on the Master Street Plan. Bobbie Jones stated it is an 80 ft. right of way and the Church has dedicated an easement to bring its side of 6th Street up to City width standards. Larry Thompkins asked what the height of the proposed structure will be. McClinton stated it will be 40 ft. above floor level. The Chairman asked if there was anyone appearing in opposition to the request. There was no opposition. The Chairman closed the public hearing on Appeal No. 81-25 and opened it up to comments from the Board members. Don Mills stated she had no problem with the request. Thompkins asked Bobbie Jones if there was any problem with the height of the bell tower. Bobbie Jones stated it appears to be in compliance with the Airport Zoning restrictions on height. McClinton stated that 6th Street can be widened to City touching any of the structures proposed or existing. Becker said he had no problem. Mills moved the variance be granted as requested. Waldren seconded. The motion passed (6-0).
