The Fayetteville Board of Adjustment met at 3:30 P.M., Monday, September 18,
1972, in the Chamber of Commerce Board Room, 123 West Mountain Street,
Fayetteville, Arkansas,

Members Present: James White, Connie Clack, Carl Yates, Suzanne Lighton,
Albert Witte.
Members Absent: None,
Others Present: Pete Young, David McWethy, Russell Purdy, Dale Holland,
David Burleson, Mrs. Ponder.
Chairman Carl Yates called the meeting to order.
The Chairman opened the public hearing on Appeal No. 72-213, Dale E. APPEAL 72-28
Holland for property at 853 North Highland Avenue on an application DALE EsHOLLAND
to vary setback from Cleburn Street, a dedicated by unopened street. 853 N. Highland.
Mr. Holland was present. He said the lot is small and bk9pes sharply
from the street with a ravine going through it. He requested a variance
of 31 ft. There was no one present to oppose the application,
The Chairman opened the public hearing on Appeal No. 72�29., Lillian L.
Umphress, 529 South Hill Avenue on an application to vary the minimum
lot width required for a two-family dwelling. David Burleson, Attorney,
and Mrs. Ponden, daughter-in�law of Mrs. Umphrese, were present to APPEAL 72-29
represent the application. Mr. Burleson said this would not involve LILLIAN UMPHRESS
any additions to the outside of the house but would involve closing off 529 So Hill
two rooms from the rest of the house and converting these two rooms
into a separate dwelling unit. She hoped to rent the rest of the house
to another lady alone. For many years the owners of this lot have kept
the property between this lot and the railroad tracks cleared off and
have used it for parking. Mr. Burleson said the lot is deep and there
is plenty of room on the lot itself for parking. Esther White, Attorney,
had contacted him on behalf of the property owner to the South, but had
no objections when she found there would be no exterior changes. He
said Mrs. Umphress needed the other apartment to supplement social
security and help pay her bills. There were no further questions and no
one present to oppose the application,
The public hearings on the two applications were closed,
Suzanne Lighton moved to approve the application of Lillian L. Umphress, APPEAL 72-29
Appeal No. 72-29, for a variance. Connie Clack seconded. It was approved
unanimously, I
The Board discussed Appeal No. 7248, Dale EosHolland, again and noted that
it would be necessary to build a bridge to open up Cleburn Street, James APPEAL 72-2
White moved to grant the variance requested. Suzanne.Lighton seconded the
motion. It was approved unanimously,
Albert Witte arrived at 3:55 P.M*
The minutes of August 28, 1972, Board of Adjustment meeting were approved MINUTES
following a correction to the last paragraph of Page 1. Future meetings
are to be held at 3:45 P.M. to avoid a conflict with Mr. Witte's classes* MEETINGG TIME
The meeting was adjourned at 4:04 P.M.
