Mr. Cogdell was present. He asked to have the request for a variance
to construct a canopy over the pump islands closer to 18th Street than

from West Custer Lane rather than 501 and to erect the building 26'6"
from the right-of-way for Highway 71 By -Pass rather than 501. He
aslo requested a variance for two signs, one of which exceeded the
area permitted for signs, and both of which exceeded the height

Miss Lighton moved that action be deferred on the request for variance
on signs. J. F. Palmer seconded. It was approved unanimously.
• Miss Lighton questioned whether the building would fit on the lot.if
it were to be turned to face West Custer Lane. Mr. Lieberenz said
he thought it would be better to keep it off Custer Lane and as far
away from the residential district to the South as possible. She was
troubled by the large variance along the By -Pass. It was explained
there would be a fence along the By -Pass right-of-way, No cars could
turn onto this property from the By -Pass without first going onto
