HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971-04-26 MinutesMINUTES OF A BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT MEETING 46-z_ The Fayetteville, Arkansas Board of Adjustment met at 3:30 P.M., Monday, April 26, 1971, in the Building Inspectors Office, City Administration Building, Fayetteville, Arkansas. Members Present: Roy Clinton, J. F. Palmer, Suzanne Lighton. Members Absent: J. F. Robinson, Carl Yates. Others Present: Joe Cogdell, James A. Pennington, Harold Lieberenz. Roy Clinton presided in the absence of J. F. Robinson. The first item on the agenda was the application for a variance on property on the Southwest corner of the intersection of 18th Street & West Custer Lane filed by Joe Be Cogdell. Mr. Cogdell was present. He asked to have the request for a variance to construct a canopy over the pump islands closer to 18th Street than permitted striken. He requested variances to erect a building 4916" from West Custer Lane rather than 501 and to erect the building 26'6" from the right-of-way for Highway 71 By -Pass rather than 501. He aslo requested a variance for two signs, one of which exceeded the area permitted for signs, and both of which exceeded the height limitation. Miss Lighton moved that action be deferred on the request for variance on signs. J. F. Palmer seconded. It was approved unanimously. • Miss Lighton questioned whether the building would fit on the lot.if it were to be turned to face West Custer Lane. Mr. Lieberenz said he thought it would be better to keep it off Custer Lane and as far away from the residential district to the South as possible. She was troubled by the large variance along the By -Pass. It was explained there would be a fence along the By -Pass right-of-way, No cars could turn onto this property from the By -Pass without first going onto 18th Street. 0 The public hearing was closed, as there was no opposition present. JOE Be COGDELL 18th St. & Custer The next item on the agenda was the application of Mrs. R. G. Brooks 11 for variances on the property located at 420 East Lafayette Street. MRS, R. G. BROOKS James A. Pennington, Contractor, was present on Mrs. Brooks behalf. 420 E. Lafayette He explained Mrs. Brooks is going to move into the house. She is very old and did not want to back out onto the street. He said they are taking down the garage on the East side which is right on the property line. The proposed carport would be in line with the house, but must be back this far in order to maneuver into the carport. There was no opposition present; the public hearing was closed. J. F. Palmer moved to approve the variances requested by Joe Be Cogdell for the service station building (the sign variances had been deferred JOE Be COGDELL earlier). Suzanne Lighton seconded. The minutes of the April 19, 1971, Board of Adjustment meeting were approved as mailed. The meeting was adjourned at 3:50 P.M. • is
