The Fayetteville Board of Adjustment met at 10:00 A.M., Monday,
September 14, 1970s in the Directors Room of the City Administration
Building, Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Members Present: J. F. Robinson, J. F. Palmer, Susanne Lighton, Roy
Clinton.
Members Absent: Carl Yates,
Others Present: Mr. Sanders, Administrator of City Hospital.
The only item for consideration before the Board was the variance
request of City Hospital and Geriatric Center to permit an addition
to be built onto the East side of the present structure. This
addition would come within 19 feet of the ROW of South Street and
a canopy on the East side would be approximately 12 feet from the
ROW of School Avenue. The ordinance requires structures be located
30 feet from street ROW. The Planning Commission had reviewed the
expansion plans and reccmended that the Board of Adjustment approve
the variance request if the sidewalk would be built as close to the
building as possible, thereby moving the driveway closer to the
building. The Planning Commission also asked that there be left
a provision of 5 feet for future street ROW.
Mr. Sanders represented the application. He stated the hospital
has 166 parking spaces. 165 will be needed after the expansion.
They are trying to create a front entrance to the Hospital which
will be more accessible. Eventually they expect to be required
to rase the old original Hospital building. Mr. Sanders allted
the walk will be moved closer to the building, the driveway built
against the sidewalk, and the canopy be shortened as the Planning
Commission asked. It was noted the island separating the driveway
from the street was drawn on the street ROW; this would have to be
built on Hospital property.
There was no opposition present.
Miss Xf2tton moved that the Board grant the petition with the
approvedunderstanding that the inland would be moved out of the street ROW
but would be retained. Roy Clinton seconded the motion. It was
