HomeMy WebLinkAbout1970-01-30 MinutesMINUTES OF A BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT MEETING The Fayetteville Board of Adjustment met at 10:00 A.M., Friday, January 30, 1970, in the Directors Room of the City Administration Building, Fayetteville, Arkansas, Members Present: Carl Yates, J. F. Palmer, Ed Clement, J. F. Robinson, Roy Clinton. Members Absent: None, Others Present: Tom Keith, Harold Lieberenz, Wesley Howe. This meeting was an adjournment of the January 26, 1970, meeting. The purpose of this meeting was further deliberation on the application of Washington General Hospital for an exception from the City zoning code. (u, 19 70 359-2 Each member of the Board of Adjustment had inspected and was familiar with the premises involved in the request for an exception and. also WASHINGTON GENERAL the present county hospital grounds and property. They reviewed the HOSPITAL evidence presented at the meeting held on January 26, 1970 and after a discussion J. F. Palmer presented the following motion: Mr. Palmer moved that the Board decline to take action upon this request due to the fact that the Board has no jurisdiction. As a precedent, he noted the fact that in the past the Hospital • has proceeded to build without a request being submitted to the municipality for approval of plans or inspections. Roy Clinton seconded the motion. After discussion, the aforementioned motion was turned down. J. F. Robinson, Carl Yates, and Ed Clement voted against it. There was further discussion in which each member of the Board expressed their concern for the public safety, especially of pedistrians attempting to cross the very heavily traveled North Street, Carl Yates made a motion that the exception requested for use of property at the Southeast corner of the intersection of North Street and Highland Avenue as a day care center aiid employee parking lot by Washington General Hospital be denied in the interest of the public's safetyrA Ed Clement seconded the motion. *and also because in the opinion of the Board there was adequate space for additional parking on the present hospital Yates, Clement, and Robinson voted "Aye" to deny the request. Clinton grounds. and Palmer abstained on the ground that they did not feel the Board had jurisdiction in the matter. The motion carried and the request was denied. Chairman Robinson thanked Tom Keith of the Northwest Arkansas Times for attending the meeting. • Mr. Palmer moved that the minutes of the January 12, 1970 meeting be approved as mailed. There were no objections and the minutes were approved. The meeting was adjourned at 11:45 A.M.
