Members present: J. F. Robinson, Carl Yates and Wade Fincher. Members absent: J. F. Palmer and Ed Clement. Others present: Austin Fitzgerald; Earl Gibson and Mrs. T. W. Scott. The meeting was called to order by Chairman J. F. Robinson. The minutes of October 6, 1966, and September 28, 1966, were approved as written and mailed to the members. The first application given consideration was that filed by Austin Fitzgerald. Mr. Fitzgerald had requested a variation to the zoning ordinance for the use of the property located at the SE corner of West Center Street and South University Avenue. Mr. Fitzgerald told the Board he had appealed for permission to leave a ground sign where it is now erected. The sign would be closer to the two street rights of way and would be within the 15 foot radius which is to be kept open for • vision clearance. Mr. Fitzgerald said the sign is much safer where it is now located. Before the sign was moved, people backed into the sign pole. There was no further discussion. Mr. Fitzgerald was dismissed. - 0 - Mr. Earl Gibson appeared before the Board to request a variation of the zoning ordinance for the use of property on Trust Street. Mr. Gibson requested permission to build a new single family residence upon the property located in an R-lA Single Family Residential District. Because the.lot is shallow, Mr. Gibson requested to build within 22 feet of the South (rear) property line. The zoning ordinance requires a 30 foot rear yard in the R-lA residential zone. There was no further discussion. Mr. Gibson was dismissed. Carl Yates moved that the Board waive the requirements of the zoning ordinance and that the Building Inspector;be, and hereby is, authorized to issue a permit for the ground sign located on the property at the SE corner of West Center Street and South University Avenue. The sign will be closer to the street rights of way than the 10 feet required by the zoning ordinance. The motion was seconded by Wade Fincher and passed unanimously. Wade Fischer moved that action be deferred on Earl Gibson!s application. 266-2 The motion was seconded by Carl Yates and passed unanimously.
