HomeMy WebLinkAbout1966-06-29 Minutes243-2 The Board of Adjustment met at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 29, 1966 -,#in the Directors' Room in the City Administration Building. Members present: J. F. Palmer, Wade Fincher and George Bowen. Members absent: J. A. Pennington and J. F. Robinson. Others present: J. W. Glasgow of R & W Construction Company; Ottis Watson; and Glenn Nelson. The meeting was called to order by George Bowen who presided in the absence of Chairman J. F. Robinson. The first application heard was the one filed by Ottis Watson for Ruby Watson. The -request was for the residential use o£.property in a C-1 Neighborhood Commercial District. The property in question is located on the north side of Highway 16 East approximately 210 feet west of Happy Hollow Road. The setbacks, lot area and off—street parking comply with the zoning regulations. The Hoard members had no questions. They felt the request was clear. The applicant was dismissed. • Mr. J. W. Glasgow and Mr. Glenn Nelson appeared before the Board on behalf of the Immanuel Baptist Church to request a variance of the requirements of the Zoning Ordinance No. 1239, as amended. Mr. Glasgow told the Board that a 10 foot by 26 foot addition onto the south side of the existing church building was proposed. The addition would be used for restrooms and for a classroom. The addition, however, would be 12 feet from the south property line and 147 feet from the west property line. A setback of 50 feet is required from the south and west property lines. The Board felt it was familiar with the request of Immanuel Baptist Church. There being no questions, those present were dismissed. The application filed by Ottis Watson for Ruby Watson was given consideration. On motion by J. F. Palmer, seconded by Wade Fincher, the Board of Adjustment unanimously voted to approve the request of the applicant for permission to erect a new single family residence upon property located in a C=1 Neighbor— hood Commercial District. The Board discussed the application of Immanuel Baptist Church. Wade Pincher moved that the Board of Adjustment waive the requirements of Article V. Section 2, Paragraph 4 — 2 — c of Ordinance No. 1239, as amended, and that the city building inspector be instructed to issue a building permit for the construction of a 10 foot by 26 foot addition onto the south side • of the existing church building for restrooms and a classroom.
