Members present: J. F. Robinson, Wade Fincher, and J. F. Palmer. Members absent: George Bowen and J. A. Pennington. Others present: Mr. Dotson Lewis and Reverend Hugh M. Jeffus. The meeting was called to order by Chairman J. F. Robinson. The only application to be heard by the Board was that of Hill Street Church of Christ. Mr. Dotson Lewis and Reverend Hugh Jeffus were present to discuss the church's request with the Board. Mr. Lewis braid upon the property there is an existing building which is being used for a church. The plans were to leave the old building until the new building were constructed. Mr. Lewis pointed out that the proposed new building was located as shown on the drawing presented to the Board because of the location of the old building. To locate the proposed building more centrally upon the lot would mean the old building would have to be removed. • There was discussion of the membership and seating capacity of both the old and the proposed building. Reverend Jeffus said presently there is a membership of 40 adults. Both buildings, existing and proposed, will have a seating capacity of 100 people. Reverend Jeffus told the Board that he did not forsee any major increase in membership in the next few years. He said he felt perhaps within the next 10 to 15 years they would have to seek another location. Mr. Lewis told the Board that consideration had been given to re- modeling the old building. After further investigation, it was decided a new building would be less expensive. The existing building is in very poor condition. Mr. Lewis commented on the type of material planned and said tha new building would be approximately 10 feet longer than the existing building but would be the same width. There were no further questions or discussion, so Reverend Jeffus and Mr. Lewis left. J. F. Palmer moved that the Board of Adjustment waive the requirements of Article V., Section 3., Paragraph 2, Subparagraph c. of Ordinance No. 1239, as amended, and authorize the building inspector to issue a permit for the construction of a building for church use on lots 1 and • 2 of Block 10 in 1•lilson-Dunn Addition, and further that said building be located upon said lots so as to be 40 feet from the east property line, and 30 feet from the south property line with off-street parkinZ 236-2 provided on the west and north yards. The motion was seconded by • '.,'ade Fincher and passed unanimously. The Board waived the requirements of the zoning regulations because it was the Board's opinion the new structure would upgrade the neighbor- hood and will be in the best interest of the general public. Also, the new building is only 10 feet longer than the existing building and will have an adult membership of 40 persons with the same seating capacity of 100 persons as the old building. The Board recommended that ingress and egress be provided off Eleventh Street and that only ingress be permitted of Hill Avenue because of the narrow width'of said street. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Date: Approved by the Board of Adjustment Respectfully submitted, • 0
