HomeMy WebLinkAbout1964-07-24 Minutes145-2 • BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT MINUTES The Fayetteville Board of Adjustment met in the City Council Room in the City Administration Building on Friday, July 24, 1964, at 4:00 P.M. Members present: J. I. Smith, George Bowen and J. F. Robinson. Others present: Harold E. Lieberenz, City Building Inspector; Mr. W. W. Bassett; Mr. Bill Thomas; Mr. I. S. Fitzgerald; and Mr. Robin Moore. Members absent: J. A. Pennington and 'James T. Kerlin. The meeting was called to order by Chairman John I. Smith. The first order of business was further discussion and consideration of the application of Mr. I: S. Fitzgerald. At the last meeting (July 16, 1964) a public hearing had been held on Mr. Fitzgerald's application in which he requested permission to erect a canopy at the Conoco Service Station at 433 North College Avenue. Action had been deferred at the last meeting until the Board received more information. Members of the Board had gone to see about the proposed canopy at the above location for the purpose of checking on possible traffic hazards which might result if the erection of the canopy were permitted. After a short discussion, the applicant and interested parties were dismissed. • The second application was the request of the St. John's Lutheran Church on West Dickson Street. Mr. H. E. Lieberenz, City Building Inspector, reported that the Church had taken option on property east of their church. They request permission to use the lower floor of an existing frame building for Sundry School. The city zoning regulations state that "church usesn in this zone must be approved by the Board of Adjustment before a building permit may be issued by the City Building Inspector. Also the applicant requests the Board of Adjustment to consider the City owned parking lot on Dickson Street and Gregg Avenue for part of this "off-street" parking requirement. Mr. W. W. Bassett stated that members of the church had talked to Mr. Guy E. Brown about permission to use his private parking lot on Sundays after the application had been filed to appear hef1we the Board. Also, the First National Bank gave permission for the use of the parking spaces at the new Drive -In Bank on Sundays. After a brie discussion, the Board 'dismissed the applicant and interested parties. J. F. Robinson moved that the Board of Adjustment approve the application of Mr. I. S. Fitzgerald as the proposed canopy would not be a traffic hazard. The motion was seconded by George Bowen and passed unanimoysly. Is George Bowen moved that the Board of Adjustment approve the application of the St. John's Lutheran Church. The motion was seconded by J. F.
