• Present: Mr. John I. Smith, Mr. James A. Pennington, Mr. Tom Schiewetz, Mr. James E.
Grant, Mr. Cy Carney, Jr., and Mr. Harold E. Lieberenz.
Absent: Mr. George Bowen and Mr. J. F. Robinson.
The meeting was
called to order by the
chairman. The minutes of the last
meeting
were approved as
written and mailed to
the members prior to the meeting.
The first application was that of Mr. Cy Carney's. Mr. Carney reappeared before the
Board of Adjustment as requested by the Board members at their previous meeting of
July 18,
Mr. Carney explained to the Board that he proposed to leave thirty (30) feet of the
existing frame sheet -metal building and to build a new thirty (30) feet addition
onto the existing building. The new building would be approximately thirty-one (31)
feet from the front of the building to the existing highway right-of-way or nineteen
(19) feet west of the proposed street widening line.
The Board wanted to know if Mr. Carney could not set his new proposed building back
enough to satisfy the City Zoning Ordinance and build onto the south side of his
existing building. Mr. Carney felt that such an arrangement would be unsatisfactory.
There was no further discussion, and the applicant was dismissed.

• The seconded application was that of Mr. James E. Grant. Mr. Grant requested a
variance for the use of property located at 1140 Waneetah Avenue. The property is
located in a R-lA Single Family Residential Zone.
The applicant requests permission to erect a car port on the north side of the
existing attached garage on his residence. The car port will be built on the north
property line instead of the five (5) feet required by the City Zoning Ordinance.
Mr. Grant has a rock -retaining wall on the north property line and he wishes to set
the support posts for the car port on this rockwretaining wall which is approximately
eighteen (18) inches high.
Mr. Grant said that is was undesirable for him to put the car port on the south side
of his residence because of the house sewer location and the lack of a convenient
entrance. Mr. Grant said he planned to pave the floor of the car port if the Board
permitted him to erect the car port on the north side of his house. There was no
further discussion, and the.applicant was dismissed.
