Smith, Chairman, Mr, Tom Schiewetz, Mr. George Bowen, Mr. James A. Pennington, Mr. Harold E. Lieberenz, City Building Inspector, and the following applicant's: Mr. King Wheeler, Mrs. Charles Wilson, Mr. Vincent D. Canfield, and Mr. Ai L. Shamblin, representing Mrs. Josephine Haight, Mr. J. F. Robinson The minutes of the last meeting were approved as mailed to the Board members prior to the meeting. '- The first application was that of Mr: King Wheeler of Wheeler Realty Company, who requested a variance from the Zoning Ordinance for the property 'on the Northwest corner of the intersection of Edna Street and Austin Drive. He requests permission to erect a new residence on the property, which will be closer to the South property line than permitted by the City Zoning Ordinance. A small open porch will project approximately seven (7) feet closer to the street than the adjacent existing residence. Mr. Wheeler stated that the porch, which would be 8' x 16' was the only problem. He also stated that Mr. Joe Coleman, Jr. had signed an affidavit that he did not object to the proposed porch. He said that the porch would have a roof, but world hot be enclose There was no further discussion, and the applicant was dismissed. The next applicant, Mrs. Charles L. Wilson, requested a variance for the property at 1704 North Oakland Avenue, which is located -at the intersection of Oakland Avenue, Kelley Street, and Sycamore Street, She wanted to add a storage room and screened -in back porch on the rear of her existing residence. The addition would be about twenty- one feet from the East property line rather than the forty feet required. Mrs. Wilson said that there would be a screened -in porch on the•rear of the house and a small storage room on the North. She said that all of the property owners in the neighborhood had signed an affidavit that they did not object to the addition. There were no further questions, and the applicant was. dismissed. - 0 - Mr. Vincent D. Canfield of Winslow applied in behalf. of Mr. Bill Jowers, owner of the property on the West side of Crestwood Drive (Lot 12, Block 2, Broadview Addition). The applicant wanted to erect a new residence on the property. The proposed residence would be thirty-two feet from the West (rear) line instead of the forty feet required. The applicant stated that he talked with the neighbors, Bill Vaught, Bryce Davis, and David Randle, and that they did not object to the building, There were no further questions, and the applicant was dismissed. - 0 - The next application was that of Mrs. Josephine Haight, represented by A. L. Shamblin. She wished to build a residence on Lots 114 and 102 of Western Methodist Assembly Addition on Skyline Drive. The residence would be only twelve feet from the street, rather than the sixty-five feet required. Also, two or three corners of the house might IV - z - be closer to the side property line than five feet. The house would have a six foot overhang on the South to be used as a balcony. .It would be a resort cottage to be used as a residence only in the summer and would be about 18' x 301. Mr. Shamblin pointed out that nearly all the houses on the 'street were closer to the street than allowed by the ordinance. There were no further questions, and the applicant was dismissed. .- 0 The next variation was requested by Mr. James D. January for the property on the Northeast: corner of the intersection of Ash Street and Greenvalley Avenue. Mr. January wished to erect a residence on the lot. The house would be about four feet closer to the street than allowed. Also, the rear setback is 39 to 39. 5 feet, rather than the 40 feet required. He had a signed statement from the property owners to be affecte saying that they did not object to his new residence. Mr. January stated that the houses were actually so far apart that it did not really affect them very much. There is about 100 feet between his proposed house and the G. W. Sullivan house on the East, the closest house. There was no further discussion, and the applicant was dismissed. -0- Mr. Lothar Krueger then appeared and stated that he wished to object to the proposed residence of Mrs. Josephine Haight on Skyline Drive. He stated that it would be cnly a few feet from his property line, and he did not want a house of that type to be built ao close to his property. He stated that he did not believe a "shack" of this kind should be allowed there in violation of the Zoning Ordinance, because he believe that prevention of that type of building was the prupose of the Zoning Ordinance. He also stated that he would be unable to sell his Lot 115, if the house were built so close to it. He offered no further objections and left, -0- Mr, Bowen made a motion that the Board permit the applications of Mr. King Wheeler, Mrs. Charles L. Wilson, Mr. Vincent D. Canfield, and Mr. James D. January. The motion was seconded by Mr.. Schiewetz. The Board voted unanimously -to approve the applications listed above.
