RE: Noise and the Town Center
In the past month that the Town Center has been in operation, we have been aware of two
immediate problems that need to be solved. As you know probably know, one is the
noise level and the other is the continual question, when are you going to finish the floor?
From the beginning, this building was designed as an exhibit hall, primarily to
complement the Continuing Education Center and the Fayetteville full-service hotels.
We anticipated the use for exhibit shows with occasional social use. The sales thus far
indicate that the predominant use of the facility will be as convention center and ballroom
for corporate meetings, training meetings, and social events.
• In the light of this, we face several challenges. The first is the difficulty in hearing
because of the sound bouncing off of the floor and into the ceiling and back again. The
second problem is chairs screeching across the floor when a speaker is presenting.
For these reasons, I am recommending that we go ahead and carpet the floor and cover up
the concrete to eliminate a great deal of the sound problem and eliminate completely the
chair-screeching problem.
As in all good things, THEN we will have to purchase staging so that we can still have
dances with a slippery floor.

Based on preliminary measurements, the estimate for installing carpet in the
convention area excluding the elevator/service areas is as follows:
Mohawk — Bigelow carpet "Camden, 3551 meadow" $23,700.00
Mohawk — Bigelow "Lago Collection" $45,900.00
Mohawk — Bigelow "Endeaor, carpet tiles" $43,200.00
To remove and install new rubber cove base at permanent walls: $768.00
These prices include material, installed, and tax.
The "Camden" can be produced in 3 to 5 working days, allow 3 days for
shipment, allow 4 to 5 days for installation.
The "Lago is in stock at the mill, and is available for immediate shipment, allow 4
to 5 days for installation.
