CONVENTION AND VISITOR DEVELOPMENT REPORT
Marilyn Johnson reviewed activity report in agenda packet. She announced that the Great
Race would be coming to Fayetteville June 11 for a lunch stop on their way from
Marietta, GA to Anaheim, California. The event will be the kickoff to the Hot Times in
the Ozarks festival.
ADVERTISING AGENCY REPORT
Susan Stirewalt reported that the Chicago Sun Times had picked up the outdoor activities
press release for a feature story. Spring ads have dropped. She presented three Addy
Awards to the Commission for the Head for the Hills campaign, the Head for the Hills ad
as a single, and for the airport duratran.
OLD BUSINESS
TOWN CENTER
Commissioners were notified that the Planning Commission approved the large-scale
development plans of the Town Center; therefore, the project is on time target for going
out for bids in April. Richard Alderman is finishing the drawings.
• Marilyn talked to the school district about the Construction Manager they hired for
school projects. Their advice was that we were too far along in the project to hire a
• construction manager since a great deal of the cost savings was in working with the
architect from the beginning. Kevin Crosson said he had talked with Charles Veneble
and that the city can monitor the project on a daily basis and save money.
NEW BUSINESS
None
INFORMATIONAL ITEMS
Curtis Shipley reported that the Methodist Church had no immediate plans regarding the
Brown Grocery Store and when and if they decided to do something, they would go
through the process.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
9P-
