Music Festival Funding Request: $5,600
Funds will be spent to print and mail ticket and
student recruitment brochures and to record the
Festival concerts.
Season Ticket Brochure: $ 2,500
Season ticket brochures are distributed at Arkansas
Tourist Information centers, six regional Chamber of
Commerce offices, through direct mail to selected arts
patrons in the tri-state area, and in tourist
information display racks throughout Northwest
Arkansas.
Student Ticket Brochure: $1,600
Student brochures are mailed to college music programs
and symphony directors nationwide, and to high school
band directors in Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and

this brochure reinforces the tremendous national
awareness that the National Public Radio broadcasts
have created for Fayetteville and the Festival.
Recording of Concerts. $1,500
Since 1987, National Public Radio has broadcast several
concerts from each Festival on "Performance Today."
Recognition by this popular program has fostered
national awareness and respect for the excellent

Economic Impact of the Music Festival on Fayetteville
Tourists/Patrons
In 1990, well over 5.000 patrons attended concert
events A survey conducted in 1989 indicates that
over 30% of ticket purchasers came from outside
Washington County, and of those attendees, 25% were
from out of state. Using the same percentages, we can
estimate that approximately 1500 (5,000 x 30%) tickets
were purchased by out of county visitors in 1990, and
375 by out of staters. If each out of county visitor
spent only $5.00 on their Festival related trip to
Fayetteville, that would generate at least :
1500 x $5 = $7,500. If only one-third of the Festival's
out of state visitors stayed in a motel or hotel for
along weekend of concerts, they would have spent an
additional estimated $7.500 in Fayetteville.
(375/3 = 125 /2 per room x $40/day x 3 days)
Participants
In 1990. 21 faculty members and 39 students came from
outside Northwest Arkansas to participate in the
Festival. The faculty members were housed in off -campus
apartments, and the students were housed in U of A
dorms In 1991. an estimated 15 faculty members and 50
students will be coming from out of town, and will all
be housed in apartments Although a few may do some
cooking (shopping locally), our experience has been
that most of the visiting musicians will eat lunches
and dinners in Fayetteville restaurants At $10/ day
for meals for 18 days fopr 65 visitors, that will
generate approximately $11.700 in restaurant business
alone.
It is the goal of the Festival to further document
these expenditures during the 1991 Festival.
