BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: Section 1 . That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, hereby adopts the new Airport Zoning Map as part of Chapter 165: Airport Zoning, of the Unified Development Code, to reflect the results of the recently completed Airport Obstruction Survey. RECOMMENDATION: Approve an Ordinance to change the Fayetteville Unified Development Code,-Chap &ez165,_Airport_Zoning_map,_toseflect new information_developed.in___—______ the recent Airport Obstruction Survey. BACKGROUND: The last Airport Obstruction Study was conducted in 1981 and resulted in the current City of Fayetteville Code which protects the approaches and surrounds of the Fayetteville Executive Airport, Drake Field. The Obstruction Study recently completed resulted in new approach zones, conical surfaces and identified existing obstructions. The purpose of the new study was to reflect the Master Plan Update which identified the need for an additional 1000 feet of runway when the operations of Critical Aircraft could be projected to exceed 250 departures annually. Secondarily, but just as important is the development of new GPS instrument approaches to both ends of the runway. The new approaches are scheduled to be published November 20, 2008. Airport zoning is necessary and required by the FAA, to protect the airport environment from towers and other construction project which might penetrate into the aircraft landing and takeoff zones.
