That Chapter 168: Flood Damage Prevention Code, of the Code of Fayetteville, is hereby amended by inserting the following: D. The Flood Hazard Study Phase IV, and Revised Flood Hazard Study Phase I, provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, are hereby adopted by reference and made a part hereof as if set out fully herein. This study provides more detailed information to better protect and manage Fayetteville' s floodplains. The Flood Damage Prevention Code mandates that when more detailed information becomes available it must be adopted by the City Council in order to be used for floodplain management. This information is also being submitted to FEMA to be incorporated into the official flood insurance rate maps for the City. The Corps of Engineers has also provided the City new floodplain information which amended the Phase I study that has already been incorporated into the official flood insurance rate maps. This new floodplain information will also be provided to FEMA. CURRENTSTATUS The Corps of Engineers has provide the City new floodplain information in the form of maps and digital data which must be adopted by the City Council in order to be utilized by the Floodplain Administrator. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends adoption of the more detailed studies in order to utilize the information for more effective floodplain management.
