HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 4286 ORDINANCE NO, 4286 AN ORDINANCE WAIVING THE REQUIREMENTS OF COMPETITIVE BIDDING; AND AUTHORIZING KING ELECTRIC TO INSTALL A NEW EMERGENCY GENERATOR FOR USE BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: Section 1 . That the City Council hereby waives the requirements of competitive bidding for the purchase of anew emergency generator for the police department for the reason that said requirements are neither practical nor feasible. During the recent ice storms, the police department generator malfunctioned and the police department and the 9- 1 - 1 - Communications Center were left without power. Further, parts necessary to fix the generator were not readily available. Threats of further serious weather made it necessary to immediately obtain a replacement emergency generator. Section 2. That the City Council hereby authorizes King Electric to install the replacement emergency generator for use by the police department. PASSED AND APPROVED this 2nd day of January , 2001 . Watson , Chief of Police DATE : December 28 , 2000 W ��J SUBJECT : Police Department Generator During the ice storm , which started December 25 , 2000 the Police Department generator malfunctioned and the Police Department and the 9 - 1 - 1 Communications Center were left without power . It has been determined by King Electrical Contractors and RP Power major work would be required to fix the existing generator . To further complicate this problem the parts to fix this generator are not readily available and would take at least a week to receive . Estimated costs to fix this generator were around $ 5 , 000 . A new generator was available in Little Rock and King Electrical Contractors agreed to pick up the Generator and Install it the next day . Due to the seriousness of this situation and the forecast of another storm for Sunday we felt there was no option but to purchase the new generator .
