AN ORDINANCE WAIVING THE REQUIREMENTS OF
COMPETITIVE BIDDING; AND AUTHORIZING KING
ELECTRIC TO INSTALL A NEW EMERGENCY GENERATOR
FOR USE BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE,
ARKANSAS:
Section 1 . That the City Council hereby waives the requirements of competitive
bidding for the purchase of anew emergency generator for the police department for the reason that
said requirements are neither practical nor feasible. During the recent ice storms, the police
department generator malfunctioned and the police department and the 9- 1 - 1 - Communications
Center were left without power. Further, parts necessary to fix the generator were not readily
available. Threats of further serious weather made it necessary to immediately obtain a
replacement emergency generator.
Section 2. That the City Council hereby authorizes King Electric to install the
replacement emergency generator for use by the police department.

SUBJECT : Police Department Generator
During the ice storm , which started December 25 , 2000 the
Police Department generator malfunctioned and the Police Department
and the 9 - 1 - 1 Communications Center were left without power . It
has been determined by King Electrical Contractors and RP Power
major work would be required to fix the existing generator . To
further complicate this problem the parts to fix this generator are
not readily available and would take at least a week to receive .
Estimated costs to fix this generator were around $ 5 , 000 .
A new generator was available in Little Rock and King
Electrical Contractors agreed to pick up the Generator and Install
it the next day . Due to the seriousness of this situation and the
forecast of another storm for Sunday we felt there was no option
but to purchase the new generator .
There is funding in the Police Department ' s Capital
Improvement project for this unit .
