AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 168: FLOOD
DAMAGE PREVENTION CODE, OF THE CODE OF
FAYETTEVILLE, TO ADOPT THE FLOOD HAZARD STUDY,
PHASE II, PROVIDED BY THE U.S. ARMY CORPS OF
ENGINEERS FOR USE IN MANAGING FLOODPLAINS WITHIN
THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE; AND TO UPDATE THE FLOOD
INSURANCE STUDY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE,
ARKANSAS:
Section 1 . That Chapter 168: Flood Damage Prevention Code, Section B., of the Code
of Fayetteville, is hereby deleted and the following shall be inserted in its stead:
B. The Flood Insurance Study for the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, dated
July 21 , 1999, with accompanying Flood Insurance Rate Map, as may from time to
time hereafter be amended, is hereby adopted by reference and made a part hereof as
if set out fully herein. Three copies of said map shall be maintained in the office of
the City Clerk
C. The Flood Hazard Study, Phase II, provided by the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers, is hereby adopted by reference and made a part hereof as if set out fully
herein. Three copies of said study shall be maintained in the office of the City Clerk.

SUBJECT: Adoption of Flood Hazard Study, Phase II
In January of this year, the Corps of Engineers completed an updated Flood Hazard Study for the
City of Fayetteville. Attached you will find a letter from the Corps addressed to Mayor Hanna
which details the items included in this study. In order for the City to use this data, it is
necessary for the City Council to approve an ordinance approving the new study as a supplement
to the City's Flood Insurance Study which was adopted by ordinance January 7, 1997.

Administrator hereby recommends that the City Council adopt the Flood Hazard Study, Phase 11 completed by the US Army Corps of
Engineers and forwarded to the CityJanuary 2000 as the most current data available for managing floodplains within the City of Fayetteville.
