ARKANSAS:
Section 1 . That the City Council hereby waives the requirements of competitive
bidding for Lifepak 500 Automatic External Defibrillators from Med Tronic Physio-Control

Automatic External Defibrillators from Med Tronic Physio-Control Corporation of Redmond,

DEPARTMENTAL CORRESPONDENCE

RE : Approval of Bid Waiver and Purchase Of
Automatic External Defibrillators
The Fire Department seeks your approval of the purchase of ten (10) Lifepak 500
Automatic External Defibrillators (AED's) at a quoted price of $28,000 ($2,800 each) plus tax
($ 1 ,345) and shipping (estimated $55 .00), from Medtronic Physio-Control of Redmond,
Washington.
This is the culmination of an approximately two year old plan to place these devices on
our fire companies when the timing seemed most right. This project is funded through our CIP
Budget.
The reason we need to order the AED 's from a sole source vendor is that it is essential
that these be compatible and interchangeable with the defribillators already being used by
Central EMS. This will enable them to make a quick change to their equipment which is
required by their medical control upon their arrival at an incident. They can make this change by
unplugging one connector and re-plugging their unit into it. If another brand or model of AED is
used by us, they would have to remove our equipment and replace it with theirs, causing a delay
we can't afford in a serious cardiac emergency.
The attached copy of the quote we received from Physio-Central should explain their
willingness to work with us in getting these life saving devices on our apparatus. If you have
questions or comments about this project, please do not hesitate to give me a call at 575-8365
(city ext. 365). Thank you for your consideration of this request.
