Re : Geotechnical Investigation
Walton Arts Center
Favetteville , Arkansas
SW JIP88- 390
Dear Mr , Mitchell :
In compliance with your request dated March 16 , 1988 , we submit the following
estimate of our fees to perform the geotechnical investigation for the
referenced project . We understand the design of the structure is yet in
the preliminary phase . However , it is expected that the building will be
primarily of structural steel frame with masonry veneer exterior, •type
construction . It is also anticipated that the structure wi11 be multi-level
with a portion containing a basement , Retaining walls may also be required .
Maximum column loads of the structure are expected to be in the range of
200 to 300 kips .
Field Investieation . We will drill the ten sample borings indicated on the
Test Hole Location Plan as closely as practical to the directed locations ,
The borings will be of 5 inch nominal diameter and are tentatively planned
for depths ranging from 6 to 35 feet . The scils will be sampled appropriately
using thin-walled tut: e samplers and driven split spoon samplers . The expected
rock formation will oe sampled using an NW-size core barrel with diamond bits ,
Soft rock will also be tested insitu using a THD cone penetrometer . We estimate
the following work units will be required to perform the field study :
A . 216 if soil sample boring at $ 8 . 50 / if* . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $ 19836 , 00
*price includes all Standard Penetration Test and
thin-walled tube samples considered necessary by
the Geotechnical Engineer . LIBER1291PAGE828

Laboratory Testine . It is difficult to determine in advance the types and
numbers of tests required to adequately evaluate the soils at the site . However ,
the following laboratory work units are anticipated to be required for this
project :
A . 12 Rock core compression tests at $ 20 . 00 /ea . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $ 240 . 00

Engineering Analysis and Report . The field and laboratory data will be
evaluated to determine the appropriate foundation system(s ) for the structure
and criteria for design , of the system ( s) . - These criteria will be presented in
a written report along with recommendations for construction of floor slabs ,
grade beams , retaining walls , paving and other ancillary features . Recommendations
for. construction procedures appropriate for the site will also be presented .
We anticipate the cost of the engineering analysis and report to be . . . $ 600 . 00
TOTAL ESTIMATE . . • • . . I ' ll " Ion . • • . • . . . $ 5 , 611 . 00
This estimate presumes the site accessible to our truck mounted drilling
equipment . The proposal is based on the estimated number of work units required
to satisfactorily perform the work from experience in the ar- c =_ the site .
Charges for the project will be only for the work units actually performed .
If aberrations are discovered in the investigation that could increase the
cost of this work , you will be notified immediately for concurrence before
proceeding . We will endeavor to meet the time schedules established for
the project .
We would appreciate the opportunity to work with you on this project . If we
can be of service or provide additional information , please notify us .
Kindest regards , 291P;,Eg9
