BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF
FAYETTEVILLE , ARKANSAS :
Section 1 . That Section 17B - 6 ( n ) of the Fayetteville Code
of Ordinances is hereby amended by amending the second sentence to
read as follows :
" Not withstanding the restrictions on the location and number
of freestanding signs prescribed by Section 17B - 9 of this
chapter , one freestanding sign not exceeding four square feet
in display surface area shall be permitted at each entrance
or exit on a lot or parcel to identify said entrance or exit
and to encourage the use of motor vehicle seatbelts , subject
to the following restrictions :
( a ) No such sign shall be erected which would create a
traffic hazard .
( b ) Any words or symbols encouraging the use of seatbelts
shall face the interior of the lot or parcel on which
the sign is located and shall not face the street unless
the City ' s official seatbelt sign is used .
Section 2 , The Board of Directors hereby determines that
entrance and exit signs which also encourage the use of motor
vehicle seatbelts should be uniform so as to be easily recog-
nizable by , and not distracting to , traveling motorists ; and the
Board of Directors hereby determines that the immediate passage of
this ordinance is necessary to promote traffic safety . Therefore ,
an emergency is hereby declared to exist , and this ordinance being
necessary for the public safety and welfare shall be in full force
and effect from and after its passage and approval .
