AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER FOUR OF THE FAYETTEVS'�P�
CODE OF ORDINANCES TO ADD SECTION 4- 23 . 1 PROVIDING THAT
IT SHALL BE UNLAWFUL FOR ANY PERSON TO ABUSE A POLICE
DOG .
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF
FAYETTEVILLE , ARKANSAS :
Section 1 . That the Fayetteville Code of Ordinances is
hereby am�eU by adding Section 4- 23 . 1 to read as follows :
Sec . 4- 23 . 1 . Abuse of Police Dogs Prohibited .
It shall be unlawful for any person to willfully
strike , kick , beat , torment , torture , injure , kill or
harass any dog used by the Fayetteville Police Depart -
ment in the performance of any departmental functions
or duties . Any person convicted of violating this
V section shall be punished as provided in Sec . 1- 5 of
the Fayetteville Code of Ordinances and/ or by imprison-
ment in the City Jail for up to 30 .days .
Section 2 . The Board of Directors hereby determines
that tt ei�f trained police dogs is essential to providing
adequate police protection ; that police dogs must be pro -
tected from harm in order to properly perform the functions
for which they are . trained ; and that the passage of this
ordinance is necessary - to provide protection to police dogs .
Therefore , an emergency is hereby declared to exist and
this ordinance being . necessary for the public safety and welfare
shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage
and approval . /J
