BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY
OF FAYETTEVILLE , ARKANSAS :
Section 1 . That the definition of on - site sign in
Sec . 17B - 2 of the Fayetteville Code of Ordinances is hereby
amended to read as follows :
On- Site Sign . A sign which directs attention to a
business , commodity , service , entertainment or attraction
sold , offered or existing on the same lot where such
sign is displayed ; provided , an on- site sign may also
display a non - commercial message .
Section 2 . That the definition of off - site sign contained
in Sec . lof the Fayetteville Code of Ordinances is hereby
amended to read as follows :
Off - Site Sign . A sign which directs attention to a
business , commodity , service , entertainment or attraction
sold , offered or existing elsewhere than upon the same
lot where such sign is displayed . The term off - site
sign shall include an outdoor advertising sign (billboard) '
on which space is leased or rented by the owner thereof
to others for the purpose of conveying a commercial or
non - commercial message .
Section 3 . That the definition of lot in Sec . 17B - 2 of
the Fayetteville Code of Ordinances is hereby amended to read
as follows :
Lot . A parcel of land under one ownership whether
described by metes and bounds or as a
platted lot .
Section 4 . The Board of Directors hereby determines that
the City's ign Ordinance needs to be clarified to adequately
regulate on - site and off - site signs ; that adequate regulation
of on - site and off - site signs is essential to the public
welfare ; and that the passage of this ordinance is necessary
to clarify the City ' s Sign Ordinance . Therefore , an emergency
is hereby declared to exist and this ordinance being necessary
for the public welfare shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage and approval .
