AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 17B OF THE FAYETTEVILLE
CODE OF ORDINANCES TO AMEND THE REGULATIONS APPLICABLE
TO CERTAIN SIGNS .

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE 'CITY OF
FAYETTEVILLE , ARKANSAS :
Section 1 . That Section 17B - 6 ( c ) of the Fayetteville
Code of Ordinances is hereby amended by amending the first para-
graph to read as follows :
" ( c ) Real Estate Signs . On a lot in any district ,
there may be erected one ( 1 ) unanimated real estate
sign ; provided , such signs shall be limited to wall
and free - standing signs whose permitted illumination
and maximum display surface area shall be as follows : "
Section 2 . That Section 17 - 6 ( n ) of the Fayetteville Code
of Ordinances is hereby amended to read as follows :
" (n ) Directional , identification , and informational
signs ; provided , such signs shall be limited to wall
and free - standing signs with a maximum of four ( 4 )
square feet of display surface area . Notwithstanding
restrictions on the location and number of free - standing
signs prescribed by Section 17B - 9 of this chapter , one
informational sign shall be permitted at each entrance
or exit on a lot or parcel to identify said entrance or
exit , provided such sign does not constitute a traffic
hazard . "
Section 3 . That Section 17B - 6 ( q ) of the Fayetteville Code
of Ordinances is hereby amended by adding the following :

" ( q ) A `free - standing bulletin board shall be set back
a minimum of ` fifteen ( 15 ) feet from street right - of -way ;
and any bulletin board having a display surface area in
excess of ten ( 10 ) square feet shall be set back from
street right - of -way an additional one ( 1 ) foot for each
two ( 2 ) square feet of display surface area in excess
of ten ( 10 ) square feet . "
Section 4 . That Section 17B - 9 ( B ) of the Fayetteville Code
of Ordinances is hereby amended to read as follows :
" ( B ) R and R- O Districts : Free - standing signs shall be
prohibited and no free - standing signs shall be erected
in any R or R- O District of the City ; provided , one
free - standing bulletin board per lot shall be permitted ,
subject to the restrictions on bulletin boards prescribed
by Section 17B - 6 ( q ) of this chapter . "

Section 5 . The Board of Directors hereby determines that
the City ' s sign regulations are in need of certain amendments for
effective enforcement of said regulations ; that effective enforce -
ment of the City ' s sign regulations is necessary for the public
health , safety and welfare ; and that the immediate passage of
this Ordinance is necessary for effective enforcement of the City ' s
sign regulations . Therefore , an emergency is hereby declared to
exist and this Ordinance being necessary for the public health ,
safety and welfare , shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage .
