AN ORDINANCE REPEALING ORDINANCE NO . 2437 TO REPEAL THE LEVY OF A LOCAL
SALES ( GROSS RECEIPTS ) AND USE TAX ; AND TO CANCEL THE SPECIAL ELECTION CALLED
TO REFER SAID LEVY TO A VOTE OF THE PEOPLE .
WHEREAS , on April 18 , 1978 , the Board of Directors adopted Ordinance No .
2437 levying a local sales ( gross receipts ) and use tax and calling a special
election to be held in the City on May 30 , 1978 on the question of levying said
tax ; and
WHEREAS , the Board of Directors has determined that it is in the best in -
terest of the City that said special election not be held on May 30 , 1978 .
NOW , THEREFORE , BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF
FAYETTEVILLE , ARKANSAS :
Section 1 . That Ordinance No . 2437 levying a local sales ( gross receipts )
and use tax and calling a special election to refer said levy to a vote of the
people is hereby repealed .
Section 2 . The Board of Directors hereby determines it is in the best
interest of the City not to hold a special election on May 30 , 1978 on the question
of adopting a local sales and use tax and hereby determines that the immediate
passage of this ordinance is necessary to cancel the special election which has
heretofore been called on said date . Therefore , an emergency is hereby declared
to exist , and this ordinance being necessary for the public welfare shall be in
full force and effect from and after its passage .
