AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 15 OF THE FAYETTEVILLE CODE OF
ORDINANCES ; TO ADOPT BY REFERENCE THE 1973 EDITION OF THE SOUTHERN
STANDARD GAS CODE ; TO UPDATE THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE CITY GAS CODE ;
AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES .
WHEREAS , by Ordinance # 1741 of June 1 , 1970 , the 1969 Edition
of the Southern Standard Gas Code , was adopted by reference ; and
WHEREAS , the Board of Directors of the City of Fayetteville ,
Arkansas , finds that the .Gas Ordinance needs updating ; and it is
in the best interest of the City of Fayetteville to revise its
Gas Ordinance ; and
WHEREAS , the Board of Directors of the City of Fayetteville ,
Arkansas , has under consideration the adoption of an ordinance
relating to the installation and inspection of gas appliances
and gas piping as set forth in the 1973 Edition of the Code entitled ,
" Southern Standard Gas Code " ; and
WHEREAS , three ( 3 ) copies of said Code are kept on file in
the Office of the City Clerk of the City of Fayetteville , Arkansas ,
and the City Clerk has caused a notice to be published in a newspaper
of general circulation within the City of Fayetteville , Arkansas , stating
that it had under consideration the adoption of said Code and advising
the public that the requisite copies of same were on file in the
Office of the City Clerk and open to public examination .
NOW , THEREFORE , BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE , ARKANSAS :
Section 1 . That Section 15- 61 of the Code of Ordinances ,
City of Fayetteville , Arkansas , is hereby amended to read as follows :
SECTION 15 - 61 Adopted .
There is hereby adopted by the Board of Directors of the
City of Fayetteville , Arkansas , by reference thereto , the provisions
set forth in the 1973 Edition of the Southern Standard Gas Code ,
Southern Building Code Congress , save and except such portions
of said Gas Code as may be added , deleted , modified , or amended
by the provisions of the Fayetteville Code of Ordinances , and
the provisions contained in said Southern Standard Gas Code are
hereby adopted and incorporated as fully as if set out at length
herein , and the provisions thereof shall be controlling within the
corporate limits of the City of Fayetteville , Arkansas .

Section 2 . That Section 15 - 69 of the Code of Ordinances ,
City of Fayetteville , Arkansas is hereby amended by adding sub -
section ( 6 ) to read as follows :
( 6 ) Reciprocal Licensing
Upon payment of the required City license
fee , an applicant for a City Gas Fitters License
who presents satisfactory evidence that ( 1 ) he
holds an Arkansas Gas Fitters License for
the current year and C21 -he took and passed
a written examination given by the Arkansas State
Committee of Gas Fitters Examiners prior to rece -
iving his original Arkansas Gas Fitters License ,
shall be issued a City Gas Fitters License by the
City Gas Inspector without examination by the
City Gas Fitters Examining Board .
Section 3 . That Section 15 - 85 . 2 is hereby added to the
Fayetteville Code of Ordinances to read as follows :
Section 15 - 85 . 2 . Section 107 deleted .
Section 107 entitled " Bond and License " of Chapter 1 of
the Southern Gas Code referred to above (Section 15 - 61 ) is
hereby deleted from the Gas Code .
Section 4 . That Section 15 - 85 . 3 is hereby added to the
Fayetteville Code of Ordinances to read as follows :
Section 15 - 85 . 3 . Section 113 deleted .
Section 113 entitled " Fees " of Chapter 1 of the Southern Gas
Code referred t9 above ( Section 15 - 61 ) is hereby deleted from
the Gas Code .
Section S . That Section 15 - 85 . 4 is hereby added to the Fay -
etteville Code of Ordinances to read as follows :
Section 15 - 85 . 4 . Section 205 . 3 amended .
Section 205 . 3 entitled " Plastic Piping " of Chapter 2 of
the Southern Gas Code referred to above ( Section 15 - 61 ) is
amended to read as follows :
Section 205 . 3 . "Plastic Piping "
When approved by the administrative authority , plastic pipe
or tubing , and fittings conforming with specification ASTM - D2513 -
69 and the following material specifications, and compatible
fittings may be used for outside natural gas piping underground
only . (See 208 . 13 for limitations )

All plastic pipe approved for use with natural gas shall
bear the manufacturer ' s name or trademark , pipe size , plastic pipe
material designation Code , standard dimensions ratio number , the
ASTM specifications to which the pipe conforms , D - 2513 , and the
production code number to indicate resins used in manufacturing .
( See Section 213 )
Section 6 . The Board of Directors determines that it is
of the utmost urgency that the City of Fayetteville , Arkansas , have
an updated Gas Code to protect the lives of the citizens of the
City . Therefore , an emergency is hereby declared to exist , and
this Ordinance being necessary for the immediate protection of the
public health and safety shall be in full force and effect
immediately after its passage .
