AN ORDINANCE AMENDING DIVISIONS I AND III , I'ARTJCLE � �II;I
CHAPTER VI OF THE FAYETTEVILLE CODE OF ORDINANCES; _ T'O (�' - � " `
REQUIRE AUTOMATIC SPRINKLER SYSTEMS IN NEW BUILDINGS AND
ADDITIONS TO EXISTING BUILDINGS WHICH ARE FOUR ( 4 ) OR MORE
STORIES IN HEIGHT ; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES .
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF
FAYETTEVILLE , ARKANSAS :
Section 1 . That Section 6 - 34 of the Fayetteville Code of
Ordinances is hereby amended to read as follows :
It is hereby adopted by the Board of Directors of the
City of Fayetteville , Arkansas , by reference thereto , the
provisions set forth in the 1969 addition of the " Southern
Standard Building Code , save and except such portions of said
code as may be added , deleted , modified , or amended , and the
provisions contained in the Southern Standard Building Code "
are hereby adopted and incorporated as fully as if set out at
length herein , and the provisions shall be controlling within
the corporate limits of the City of Fayetteville , Arkansas .
Section 2 . That Division III , Article III , Chapter 6
of the Fayetteville Code of Ordinances is hereby amended by
adding a Section 6 - 78 . 1 to read as follows :
Section 6 - 78 . 1 . Section 901 . 6 amended .
Section 901 . 6 is amended by adding paragraph ( 3 ) to read
as follows :
Any new building which contains four ( 4 ) or more
stories , or is more than fifty ( SO ) feet in height ,
or any ' addition to an existing building which increases
the number of stories therein to four or more or the
height thereof to fifty ( 50 ) feet or more , which is
not otherwise required to have an automatic sprinkler
system ; provided , health care institutions subject
to federal and/ or state codes requiring fire prevention ,
protection and safety measures shall be exempt from this
requirement .
Section 3 . That Section 6 - 78 . 1 of the Fayetteville Code of
Ordinances is hereby renumbered Section 6 - 78 . 2 .

and effect six ( 6 ) months after its passage , approval , and
publication .
