When , wooddn floor ,joists are used, in any buildings , they shall have the following dimensions : 2 X 8 , 16 inches on center for spans up to 12 feet . 2 X 109 16 inches on center for spans of 12 to 14 feet . 2 X 129 16 inches on center for spans of 14 to 16 feet . 2 X 149 16 inches on center for spans of 16 to 20 feet . Section 2 . Where in the present ordinances reference is made for issuing permits for the erection of buildings with 8 inch brick or 6 inch the walls , where • the area is small and the height not . more than one story, this shall be further defined as the use of an 8 inch - brick or 8 inch tile wall for erection of one story buildings which do not exceed 12 feet in width ( inside ) and 24 feet in length ( inside ) and ' the outside of said 8 inch walls shall not be closer than 5 feet nog to property lines iw;O. within 10 feet of any existing buildings on the property concerned .
