ORDINANCE NO . 4Ls.
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE PLUMBING ORDINANCES OFTHECITY OF FAYETTEVILLE,
ARKANSAS , RFJISING SAID ORDINANCES AND ADDING NMI REGULATIONS ALL IN
CONFORMITY WITH STANDARD CODES ,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY CF FAYETTEVILLE , WASHINGTON COUNTY , ARKANSAS :
Section 1 . Section 19 of Ordinance No . 226 as amended by Section 2 of
Ordinance No . 570 is hereby amended to read as follows :
"Section 19 . Floor or other drains will only be permitted when it can
be shown to the satisfaction of the plumbing inspector that the use is
absolutely necessary and arrangements made to maintain a permanent water seal
in the traps .
"The discharge from vats , soda fountains , ice boxes , and refrigerators
shall have an open receptacle between them and the house drain .
"All hotels , restaurants , cafes , or other establishments where grease is
liable to enter the sewer line shall be provided with catch basins for
receiving sink waste , made of cast iron, tile brick or concrete with stone
or iron cover properly trapped and vented , which catch basins shalle-be u:' ::�

and- cleaning .
"No more than thirty-two plumbing fixture units as hereinafter defined shall
be connected to a four inch sewer or main waste or house drain . The following
list of plumbing fixtures shall have the unit value set opposite each :
Water closet 4 units
Slop sink 3 "
Urinal 3 "
Shower 2 "
Bath tub 3 "
Sink 2 "
Lavatory 1 "
Automatic dishwasher 2 "
Automatic laundering machine 2 "
Automatic garbage disposall 2 "
Sedtion 2 . Section 25 of Ordinance No . 226 is hereby amended to read as
follows :
"Section 25 . The house drain and house sewer shall be run as direct as
possible with a fall of at least one-fourth of an inch per foot . All changes
in direction shall be made with proper fittings and all connections made with
"Y" branches or sanitary tees or one -eighth or one-sixteenth bends , Provided,

however , that all turns of ninety degrees or more shall be made with ^Y" and .
one-eighth bends or long sweep quarter bends . "
Section 3. Section 26 of Ordinance No . 226 is hereby amended to read as
follows :
"Section 26 . The house sewer and the house drain must be at least four
inches in diameter where water closets discharge into them. All house sewers
must be of salt-glaze, vitrified clay pipe , fiber pipe or cast iron pipe . All
tile sewers shall be joined with joining compound .
Section 4 . Sections 54 and Sections 55 of Ordinance No . 226 are hereby
repealed .
Section 5 . Paragraph one of Section 56 of Ordinance No . 226 is hereby
amended to read as follows :
"Section 56 . ( 1) . Applications to connect with any server must be made in
writing to the City Engineer or Inspector by the owner of the property to be
drained or by their duly authorized attorneys or plumbers and mist be accompanied
by a clear description of the premises to be drained and of the drains required
and also by certain agreements , all as provided in the printed form of application
issued by said City Engineer and/or Inspector . "
Section 6 . Paragraph 3 of Section 56 of Ordinance No . 226 is hereby amended
to read as follows :
"Section 56 . ( 3) . Notice must be given at the office of the City Engineer
of the City of Fayetteville , Arkansas at least twenty-four hours before any
street or public way can be opened for the purpose of laying a private drain
or before any drain pipe can be extended from work previously done and accepted
or new connections of any kind can be made with such work unless otherwise
permitted by the City Engineer .
Section 7 . Section 7 of Ordinance No . 263 designated in Ordinance No . 263
as "Rule 7" is hereby amended to read as follows :
"Section 7 . Kind of pipe used. Either lead, galvanized, iron, copper or
aluminum pipe may be used for water at the option of the owner . "
Section 8. Section 13 of Ordinance No . 571 is hereby amended to read as
follows :
"Section 13 . The charges for a permit under the Ordinance shall be Two
( $2 . 00 ) Dollars for any plumbing work done in or about any building ( other than
minor repairs as previously defined ) , to include one fixture when new fixtures
are being installed and One ($1 . 00 ) Dollar additional for each and every fixtrure
or opening left in the soil and waste pipes for fixtures and drains , and Two

( $2 .00) Dollars for sewer connections . All fees shall be paid by the plumber
doing the work at the time he receives the permit . All fees so paid for
permits shall be paid direct to the plumbing Inspector and be kept by him for
his services herein . "
Section 9 . All public rest rooms , construction of wh-2.ch is begun on and
after thirty days from passage and approval of this ordinance shall be equipped
with floor drains in such a manner that liquids will flow by gravity into said
drains .
Section 10 . Gas hot water heaters shall not be installed in a closed
room such as the bath room, clothes closet , bedroom, or any other similar
location unless adequate circulation of air and venting is provided .
Section 11 . All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
are hereby repealed and it appearing that new regulations conforming to modern
practices are necessary for the preservation of the public health, peace and
safety and an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this ordinance shall
be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval .
