An ordinance to define the Powers and Duties of
the Chief of Police of the City of Fayetteville , Arkansas ,
and to Prescribe and Regulate the same .
Be it ordained by the City Council of Fayetteville ,
Arkansas . i
Pte " Sec , 1 . That the Chief of Police of the City of Fayetteville,
Arkansas , shall have and may exercise all the fro:%vers and
lt4privileges and shall perform the duties of Chief of Police
in said City as provided in Section 5618 , 5619 , 5620 , 'and
5621 of Kirby ' s Digest relating to the Chief of Police in
Cities of the first class .
Sec . 1 . In addition to the powers conferred on the Chief
of Police and the duties required of him by the Statutes re -
ferred to in Section one of this Ordinance , it shall also
be the duty of the Chief' of Police oi' this City to collect
all penalties , fuzes , forfeitures and costs assessed in the
Police Court of the City and if' assessed for violation of
a City Ordinance :le shall on the same day or the day follow-
ing turn the amount so colledted over to the Police Judge ;
but if the a:nount so collected shall have been assessed by
the Police Judge sitting as a Justice of the Peace , then
the amount so collected shall be depositied in the City
Treasury as hereinafter provided .
Sec . 3 , it shall also be t

Police to collect all licenE and special taxes fixed
or levied by the City Cour , i _ and deposit the sar! e in the
City Treasury . All su moneys collected by the Chief of
Police shall be dep`D�) ited is the City Treasure at the end of

Sec . . At the first . reguiar meetin the City Council in
each month the Chief of Police all submit to the Ccuncil an

/ the Police Judge r deposited in the City Treasury . Such
state,ne t: mus be balenced by receipts fro;,i the Police Judre
or the Ci y Treasurer sho , ing that all moneys collected by
him Y ve been turned ovcr to the Police Judge or deposited in
e City Treasury as herein prosided .
Sec . 5 . The Chief of Police shall have power to a ;point
OV -^ one or more deputies from the Police Force for whose official
acts he shall be re . ponsible and by vrhom he may execute all
processes of commitment directed to him which appointment
shall be in , riting and filed with the City Clerk and the
Deputy so appointed shall have authority and it shall be his
duty to receive any commitment fro;-.i the Police Court that may
be delivered to him and collect the rine , penalty or forfeit -
uros, and costs herein specified .
Sec . 6 . upon receipt of any such commitment it shall be
the duty of the Chief of Police or the Deputy to whom the
same was delivered to . forthraith demand payment of the fine ,
penalty or forfeitire or costs therein speefied fro=m the
person therein named and upon collection of the same to make
enuor �.ement thereon upon such commit -ent . and file the commit-
ment with the City Clerk the same day the collection is made
or, the next day thereafter and to pay over the amount as here
in required or inccase of failure to pay he shall ex .: cute the
order of coi:iiaitment .

Sec . 7 . In addition to liability incurred upon } , is off'i - i
tial bond any violation of any of the provisions of this
Ordinance by the Chief of Police or disregard by him of
any of the duties herein made ingumbent upon ' him shall be
dee3ed to be a misdemeanor in office for which he shall
be liable to impeachment and re:-noval from office .
Sec . 8 , All Ordinance ; and ;-arts of Ordinance in conflict
with the provisions of this Ordinance are hereby repealed
and this Ordinance shall take effect and be in force from
and after its passage and oublication,
