An ordinance requiring owners of property on Highland Avenue
to put dorm side walks and curbing .
Be it ordained by the City Council of the City of Fayetteville
Arkansas .
Section 1 . That all persons living on or owning property which
fronts on the west side of Highland Avenue in the City of Fayetteville:
between Dickson Street and Lafayette Avenue , be and they are hereby
ordered to lay or cause to be laid , a sidewalk and curbing , each in
front if his or her own property facing on said street between the
points designated .
Section 2 . Said Side -walks shall be made of concrete ,
vitrified brick or smooth stone flagging and shall be properly laid
to the grade , now established or which may be hereafter established ,
by the City Council and shall not be less than four feet wade , the

curbing to be of dressed stone not less than four inches deep\nd to
be placed to the grade " above mentioned .
Section 3 . If said siedwalk shall be vitrified brick then the
same shall extend from the line of the fence across to the line "of
the curbing ;: nd shall not be less than six ( 6 ) feet in width .

If of stone flagging, the said flagging shall be cut to a square
and shall be not less than one and one half inches in thickness .
Section 4 . The paving above required shall be laid with a

foundation of two inches of sand or cinders , well tamped a :7 a
base , and then one half inch of loose sand spread to a guage , and

then the brick or stone laid flat thereon so as to make a solid i
brick or stone walk .

Section S . Said sidewalk and curbing shall be completed on or
before the first day of June , 1902 ,
Section 6 . That all persons who shall fail , refuse or
neglect to have said sidewalk and curbing completed as aforesaid
shall be adjudged guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction there
of. shall be fined in any sum not less than five nor more than
twenty five dollars , for each day that he , she or they shall fail
refuse or neglect thereafter to have said sidewalk and curbing
completed as aforesaid , provided that this ordinance shall not
apply to property , the owner of which'-has heretofore had a A de -
walk laid , of concrete , brick or stone flagging which is in
good repair at this time and conforms to the grade established .
Section 7 . That all ordinances in conflict with this
ordinance be , and the same are hereby repealed and that this
ordinance take effect from and after its passage and publication .
