A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING BLACK-OWNED AND LGBTQ+-OWNED BUSINESSES IN
FAYETTEVILLE DURING JUNETEENTH AND PRIDE MONTH
WHEREAS, June is a month of public recognition, remembrance, and celebration, including Juneteenth, which honors
the end of slavery in the United States, and Pride Month, which honors lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer
Americans and their contributions to our communities; and
WHEREAS, Black-owned and LGBTQ+-owned businesses help shape Fayetteville’s local economy, neighborhoods,
culture, hospitality, and public identity; and
WHEREAS, local businesses create jobs, serve customers, support families, invest in neighborhoods, and help make
Fayetteville a place where people want to live, work, study, visit, and gather; and
WHEREAS, many Black and LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs have built businesses while facing barriers to capital, property
ownership, customer access, professional networks, and equal treatment; and
WHEREAS, business success also depends on workers, customers, vendors, contractors, neighbors, patrons, and
community partners who help local businesses grow and thrive; and
WHEREAS, Fayetteville’s restaurants, hotels, shops, event spaces, entertainment venues, and service businesses help
attract visitors and generate local economic activity, including Hotel, Motel, and Restaurant tax revenue that supports
tourism promotion and City parks; and
WHEREAS, Fayetteville’s business support network includes the City’s Economic Development work, partnerships
with Chamber Fayetteville, workforce and career training through Fayetteville Public Library, and entrepreneurial
support through organizations such as Startup Junkie; and
WHEREAS, Fayetteville is stronger when entrepreneurs from many backgrounds have the opportunity to start
businesses, reach customers, hire workers, build wealth, and contribute to the life of the city.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE,
ARKANSAS:
Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby recognizes and honors Black-owned and
LGBTQ+-owned businesses in Fayetteville during the month of June, in connection with Juneteenth and Pride Month.
Section 2: That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby recognizes the business owners, workers,
customers, patrons, and community partners whose support helps these businesses succeed.

SUBJECT: A Resolution to recognize Black-owned and LGBTQ+-owned businesses
RECOMMENDATION:
Recognize and honor Black-owned and LGBTQ+-owned businesses in Fayetteville during the month of June,
in connection with Juneteenth and Pride Month.
BACKGROUND:
Business success also depends on workers, customers, vendors, contractors, neighbors, patrons, and
community partners who help local businesses grow and thrive. Fayetteville’s restaurants, hotels, shops, event
spaces, entertainment venues, and service businesses help attract visitors and generate local economic
activity, including Hotel, Motel, and Restaurant tax revenue that supports tourism promotion and City parks.
DISCUSSION:
Fayetteville’s business support network includes the City’s Economic Development work, partnerships with
Chamber Fayetteville, workforce and career training through Fayetteville Public Library, and entrepreneurial
support through organizations such as Startup Junkie. Fayetteville is stronger when entrepreneurs from many
backgrounds have the opportunity to start businesses, reach customers, hire workers, build wealth, and
contribute to the life of the city.
