A RESOLUTION ENDORSING
SUPPORTING THE CONCEPT
FAYETTEVILLE CELEBRATION .
ENCOURAGING AND
OF A FIRST NIGHT

WIDREAS, the City Council of the City of Fayetteville believes it is in the best interest
of the citizens of Fayetteville to encourage as other areas have a community celebration of New
Year's Eve through a festival that marks the passage of time through art and rinral known as First
Night Fayetteville; and,
WIIREAS, the City Council believes a First Night Fayetteville will benefit the City and
the region by:
a. increasing our sense of community through a multicultural event bringing many
participants together from all facets of the community;
b. offering a safe, alcohol-free, affordable family-oriented New Year's Eve event;
contribution to our economy through increased tourism, bringing people into the
downtown area, and by strengthening the economic foundations of the arts
community; and
d. by enhancing the national image of Fayetteville and the region through a nationally
recognized, award winning high quality event.
NOW, TIIEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY TIIE CITY COIJNCIL OF TIIE CITY
OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKAI\SAS:
Section 1. That the City Council hereby endorses, encourages and supports the concept
of a FIRST NIGHT FAYETTEVILLE celebration to be held on New Year's Eve.
Section 2. That the City of Fayetteville and all of its city departments will cooperate
with FIRST NIGHT FAYETTEVILLE in the planning and implementation of the event.
Section 3. That the City of Fayetteville encourages all public and private sectors of the
community to support and encourage the concept of a FIRST NIGHT FAYETTEVILLE.
