BACKGROUND: 9267 (TRAN_F015) is a 2018 Vogele Super 1700-3i with 14.4/15 points (prior to accident damage). DISCUSSION: The current Vogele Super 1700-3i paver was not due for replacement till FY26. Due to the recent accident while paving, a substantial amount of damage was done to the curbside screed wing. The entire right-hand side screed wing will have to be replaced at a large cost. Transportation and Fleet Operations are recommending early replacement as opposed to repairs, so we can procure a replacement paver and start training on the new unit before next year's paving season starts. We will be going with a new manufacturer with Transportations input to better accommodate road sizes in Fayetteville. The new machine will be capable of paving smaller roads in a single pass as opposed to the current machine that needs to pave roads in two passes. BUDGET/STAFF IMPACT: This is not a planned replacement in the 2025 budget. There are enough funds in the project to cover the purchase. Funds will be replenished in the 2026 budget. ATTACHMENTS: 3. The new model under consideration represents a substantial advancement in operational efficiency and paving quality. The existing paver's limited width allows it to overlay only one lane at a time, requiring multiple passes to complete each roadway segment. This process not only doubles time and labor costs but also increases the likelihood of uneven leveling between lanes. The proposed replacement paver offers a paving width of up to 21' 4", enabling single -pass paving on narrow streets and multi -lane coverage on five -lane roads. It is also equipped with a 3% depth inversion capability, allowing precise slope adjustments to improve drainage — particularly beneficial in areas such as alleyways. This functionality, currently performed manually, would reduce error margins and enhance overall pavement quality. In summary, the new paver would deliver measurable improvements in productivity, accuracy, and cost efficiency, making it a strategic and forward -looking investment for Transportation operations.
